Probably our toughest game of the group on paper!

It would be great to get off to a winning start and take all 3 points and i fully expect us to.BUT it would not be the end of the world if we came away with a draw, after all they are by far the toughest opponent we will have to play over the 6 group games and we are away from home.
I think we will win though!

I reckon Raffa will start with
                       Reina
              Finnan Agger Carra Arbeloa

            Pennant Gerrard Mascherano Babel

                     Kuyt Torres

Arguably our strongest 1st eleven in my opinion and should be good enough to give any team problems.
I really hope Mascherano starts tonight as he is a player i love to watch.Id have him on every time in Europe as the refs are notoriously harsh and seem to think that every 50/50 ball is a free kick.
Basically Masherano is probably one of the best and cleanest tacklers i have seen and will give away less free kicks than Alonso in crucial areas...Set pieces could be the biggest chance for them tonight considering we have conceeded no goals from open play so far!

I just hope the team are more up for this game than I am. I really can't seem to generate much enthusiasm for this game tonight, I was more excited about our pre-season friendlies than I am for this one. Maybe its because I think no matter what the score and result tonight we will still qualify, or perhaps its just the disappointment against Pompey. I can't remember the last time I was so emotionally flat before a Liverpool game. No doubt if we lose I will still kick the kids (I must get a cat) but my heart won't be in it.

I can't see many goals in this one so 0-0 or 1-0 either way, hopefully Torres or Kuyt will show us what we missed against Pompey and snatch a goal.

Come on you red men..... yay

Think it might be another 0-0 draw....but i hope we win. Win this game and rafa can take it easy as this is most likely our hardest game in the group stages. He will then able to play the strongest team in the league  :D

Yeah- we should concentrate on the league get that in the bag by Christmas then we can look after the Champions league!

I would be happy with the following as i think Mascharano can give Gerrard more mobility to go forward although i wouldn't be unhappy with Alonso- or even Voronin for Kuyt- although Kuyt offers more defensively from the front so i figure he'll start.

                        Reina
             Finnan Agger Carra Arbeloa

           Pennant Gerrard Mascherano Babel

                    Kuyt Torres

Although Benitez will probably shock us all a stick Momo in as he seems to like his spoiling tactics in Europe.

This is the team i would like to see...

                      Reina
    Finnan   Carra    Agger  Arbeloa
   Pennant  Gerrard  Mascherano  Riise/Yossi
             Kuyt
                         Torres

All the way i have maintained that we won't win the premier league this season...Arsenal will.

So i will be happy if rafa concentrates on champions league.

Many seem to agree, that this should/will be our starting formation tonight, and I agree on both accounts. There won't be much in this game I reckon, maybe we'll sneak a one goal win or maybe just a goalless draw. Anyway, this ought to be the toughest game in our group, so a draw wouldn't be too bad from our perspective. Here's hoping for a win anyhow though  :)

On the whole league vs. champions league discussion: let's just win both shall we not :buttrock  The league title has been far too long time and needs to come home, and we'll win the CL just to spite Arsene, Sir Alex and all the russian rent boys, who all seem desperate for this particular title  :glare:
