SUNDERLAND VS LIVERPOOL - 12:45 kick off

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Sabre » Sat Aug 25, 2007 5:49 pm

Sabre , to be clear, I'm not suggesting we get rid of Alonso justsuggesting that in Gerrads absence the Alonso / Sissoko partnership does Alonso no favours , he was virtually invisible for most of this game.

He is certainly not playing up to the standard we know he's capable of . Should also mention that in many recent games after receiving a ball in a reasonable amount of space he's getting caught in possesion time and time again, almost as if the game is moving to fast for him .

Hey Woof, to be clear, I felt embarrassed last year when I found myself discussing harshly about if Alonso is A or B. This is football, and it's for fun. I know you don't say he must be sold, and for what is worth, you're right he's been caught aslept in this games more than once, so fair play there.

I'm just saying that I'm not worried because a good player doesn't forget playing football, and ups and downs come in a a player. BTW, I wasn't talking about you, other were harsher and were asking him to be dropped inmediatly.

And I know you also, and not all of you but most of the crowd has Alonso in regard. It's just fans of a big club wanting the best for their club and commenting about a player. In a big club, 0 2 is decent, but 0 3 would be better. And if you can get a 0 4, you shouldn't be happy with the 0-3. It's just natural, no worries mate :)

About The Grudge, who are you? I mean are you an alter ego, you make comments about me since day one you joined the forum. Where exactly do you see the blind faith? in saying Alonso had an average game? in saying he hasn't the abilities of Gerrard to dribble?

Your comment is the most stupid for ages. Bad passes? ok. Caught in possesion? ok. Not accurate in his last range efforts? true. But illegitimate son? fúck off. :)

Of course we all hold Alonso in high regard,he has done a lot for LFC!

Saying that players should only be on the pitch by merit.A romantic approach by the manager that robs a highly talented player chewing at the bit to get on in favour of someone he has history with is wrong!

Maybe hes just holding Mascherano back..like a bloodhound smelling the fox?
I dunno i just cant think of any reason that Mascherano is not in the 1st team...Raffa did describe him as a 'monster' of a player.....

Mmmmmmn......Time to let the monster go Raaaaaaaaaaaar :D  :buttrock

My preferred 1st choice Central Midfield combo should be Gerrard & Mash... (Think Mash complements Gerrard very well)

But i think Rafa will end up playing Gerrard & Alonso for most of our matches..IMO this is due to ......

1) Alonso had just signed a 5 yr contract. He wouldn't have signed such a long contract if he wasn't given some sort of guarantee about how many matches he is gonna play by rafa....

2)Mascherano is still on loan with us.  With the signing of lucas.....we have 5 top central midfielders in this club now..... So I won't be suprised (but will be pi$$ed) if Rafa doesn't sign Mascherano to a permanent deal after all (I read that he is being valued at 15 million points)

Like i said....i prefer Mascherano as he sweeps up pretty well and thus allow Gerrard to just concentrate on attacking. But think Alonso will be partnering him most of the times.

Just hope Alonso gets back to his 1st season form asap. I still think he is a smashing player.... but if all he does is protect the back 4 (something which Mash does much better)....then serious questions will be asked of his quality....

I want Alonso to dictate games like he did in his 1st and 2nd seasons...

Sabre i just read a lot mate!

And by reading i know that you seem to feel Alonso should be in the team because you have some sort of empathy with him.
Great player for us on occassions..i feel though that the fact he is Basque and did feature in the ranks of your prefered(favourite) team ie Real Sociedad that you seem to think he is the muts swingers?

Its just a purely LFC train of thought on my behalf, simply wanting the best for my club...As for your blatent paranoia in thinking that every poster that has a different reasoning than you is an 'alter ego'...Well if you sit down and think about it?? :D

I'm just happy we won and that with a bit more luck and more clinical finishing we could have scored a few more, from genuine good chances. I thought Torres was outstanding today (finishing could have been better), but his pace, control and strength was great. He will certainly terrify a few defences this season.

I was very surprised/disappointed when Mascherano didn't play today but Sissoko had a very good game and scored so I can't complain. I think I may have to change my opinion on Pennant if he keeps playing like he did today, I thought he was excellent again. I thought Alonso had a quiet game but it wasn't really a game for silky midfield skills and his height and strength
proved valuable against a team that hustled and bustled.

I can't say I understand the hype about Babel today I thought he was ok but nothing special but different people see different things. Voronin certainly looks more of a goal threat than Kuyt but could have done better with the Torres pull back.

I just hope Carra and Hyypia are ok because having failed to sign Heinze we look a bit short at the back now.

This was the kind of game we would have struggled in last season and maybe only drawn, so its great to have missed some good chances and yet still won 2-0.

Did you not feel that everything went down the right mate??

I think Babel will be a class player for us..he had little opportunity but when he got the ball he was sorrounded by 2-3 players?

Whatever. Wake me up when you come talking about football.

BTW, about Babel there seems to be different opinions as far as I've read. To me this wasn't a game to excel, and in the first games in a club, even the less. But I think this player is going to be very important for Liverpool.

I think the reason everything was going down the right was Pennant was on fire and really seemed to want the ball today. Babel is only just bedding in so maybe wasn't everyones first choice option when looking to pass. I thought Babel showed good skills but made the wrong choices ,passing back when he had time to turn, taking the ball on when he had 2 or 3 men on him. But hes only young and I am sure he will soon learn.

I could see some of this you mention, but I could see aswell in most of the team, at some parts of the game, Agger made the wrong choices some of them leading to danger, Alonso aswell, Torres gave too much strenght to a 1-2-1 and Babel couldn't reach, we were pretty unaccurate at some points as a team.

The good thing though, is that this season Liverpool is effective as fúck, unlike last season in which sometimes we played so well and drew the game. The hype is normal if you ask me, we all like watching new players.
