Overall I think we were scrappy at times. We were often missing that final ball up front. Im glad we got Babel but I think hes not quite settled in yet. In fact id say the whole team is still a bit rusty but that will iron out eventually. The important thing is that we killed the game off and got the 3 points. We could ask for no more.

Highlights & goals in HQ will be posted tomorrow morning.

I am well impressed with Torres.  The lad works very hard up top...harassing defenders and putting himself about.  More importantly, however, he has the pace and quality to really open up teams.  He carved several scoring opportunities out for himself today--some he could have done better with, others he was unlucky that their keeper was in top form.  He also set up teammates--especially with the lay-off for the second and, more impressively, the drive to the byline and the cut back for Voronin minutes before the goal.  He will no doubt frustrate on occasion with some bewildering misses but he creates chances and that's only going to benefit the team.

I was also impressed with Pennant today, who looks to be brimming with confidence.  His final ball/final decision-making is sometimes a little suspect but he takes players on, has a brilliant touch and great close control and he pulls defenders all over the shop.  Babel saw less of the ball but I saw similar qualities from him today in terms of touch and dribbling.  We already know he has a thunderous shot, so I think if he can build his confidence we'll have two exciting wide players on our hands.

In the middle, Sissoko had has usual all-action game...made all the sweeter by a lovely strike for his first goal.  Momo seems to have learned a good deal of discipline, as he rarely dives in recklessly anymore.  His passing and general decision making in the final third still leaves a good deal to be desired, though.  I thought Alonso had a decent game as well, particularly with the angled ball into the box which set the first goal in motion.  As others have noted, though, when he gets harried while in possession his ability to impact the game drops.

Our big worry, of course, is the state of Carragher's injury.  I didn't see what happened to him and I hope that it's only bruising rather than broken ribs.  Hyypia should be fit to deputize but losing Carra for any length of time would be a real blow.  We'll just have to wait and hope.

bob do you think torres looks more like he could get 20 after this match i meen he could have had 2 easy goals if keeper wasnt on form.

Also as i mentioned in another post as i defended sisoko he is starting to shine as i had a feeling he would looks stronger and more composed then normal which is very promising.

Team was very scrappy today we had no real flowing movement untill the 2nd goal and a few other attacks.

Defence looked ok when carra went of we delt with every thing pretty easy even tho it didnt look nice football.

All in all a good performance but i really think we can do better and i think we will turn over alot of teams this season away from home and more importantly we can win when we aint in form which is key when you want to win the league.

MoM sisoko 9/10

Other best performer Penant 8/10

Worried about carra , Rafa get on the banana phone and get some back up.

That's exactly the point, though, mate.  I don't think many people are doubting Torres's ability to create chances.  There has been a question about his ability to finish those chances off clinically, however.  I'm not going to predict how many he'll get this season.  At this stage, I'm just impressed by his ability to carve out openings, which is something we've been missing up top since Owen left.

Overall it was a sold performace. Nice to see Sissoko finally get a goal. Should have been 4/5-0 but a win is a win.
I'm getting more and more convinced by the game that Torres and Voronin should be the main strikers.

Voronin is 95% better at scoring than Kuyt and will get more goals this season even if it is his 1st.
And I'd even put Crouch ahead as a sub to change the game.

Ahhh ok bob but isnt that half the fun putting ya neck out and just saying one way or other if he does or not.

Then of course at end of season you either look right or wrong but its just all fun.

:eyebrow

True tho about his finishing but i think this is just due to fact he prob is trying to hard. I think mabye 6-7 games in he start to relax a bit more .

True enough, lad.  What the heck...I called the Sissoko goal didn't I so I might as well stick my neck out again.

I predict Torres will score 24 goals for us this season in all comps.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was happy after his side's 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, but the Reds must now wait for news on injuries to Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher.
Speaking at the post match press conference, Rafa confirmed Hyypia had a suspected broken nose and Carragher could possibly have broken a rib.

Goals from Momo Sissoko, Liverpool's 7000th league goal, and Andriy Voronin gave the Reds their second away win of the season and Rafa was quick to praise his players.

"The team was very good and we showed we have a better squad this season," enthused Benitez. "It was special for Momo to score our 7,000th goal and he's now in the record books.

"I thought Torres, Voronin, Pennant and Babel caused the Sunderland defence a lot of problems. We created a lot of chances and we could have finished off the game a lot earlier.

"It's not good as a manager for my heart seeing us miss chances, but Voronin scored a good goal to get us the win."

Good stuff i thinka bout that many to mabye a few more if things go very well for him.

Sisoko was a good call i didnt think he would score today but to go down as the 7000 goal for liverpool nice moment for the lad and a worthy goal to boot.

I disagree with those who are knocking Xabi (weekly basis almost) I thought he had a reasonably good game, as did Momo alongside him. Not saying Gerrards abscence wasn't realised, it definately was....just that a lot of Alonso's work lagely goes unnoticed by quite a few, unless the lads spraying Hollywood balls all over the park or peppering the oppositions goal - his key prescence in finding that elusive space is taken for granted all too often.

Hold up Red , I don't think anyone is taking Alonso's "hollywood passes" for granted, even though in his first season he showed time and time again that he has the ability to deliver them. What is happening however is that despite showing a defensive ability, that some doubted he had , his creativity seems to have dwindled game by game. This after all is the fella who some thought would be a natural successor to Gerrard (when we thought we might lose him).commentators were creaming in their pants over Alonso's ability to pick and deliver a killing ball, BUT if anything that creativity seems to have slowly seeped away these last two seasons. If anything nowadays Alonso seems to be nothing more than a decent midfielder who is capable of occasionally delivering something special, unfortunately those moments of delivering something special are becoming rarer and rarer. Like i said in an earlier post , perhaps he needs protection to allow him to display his creative abilities , but surely a player that needs a minder to allow him to play to his full potential has to be considered as a luxury ?

Torres and Voronin is our best striking combo, Voronin is a great signing, his running and ball control is quite good.

Team played ok. Thank god sissoko scored his first in 3 years lool.

Reina - Looked a bit shakey at the end chased the ball and left the goal open.

Finnan - Done his usual job by supporting Pennant down the right

Carragher - Played well as usual. Challanged for everything.

Agger - Looked Solid as did Carragher. Only Fit cb we have left

Arbeloa - Didnt see too much of him.

Babel - At times he did too much and lost the ball. However he supported the attacks well down the left

Alonso - Looked Missing Today bit dissapointing

Sissoko - Played well. Broke up play. And Finally scored that goal

Pennant - Played Great down the wing AGAIN. Looks very sharp this season

Voronin - Took his goal well. Linked up well

Torres  MOTM - Torres is my man of the match. He never scored but got into those great positions and set up a few attacks notably Voronins goal and where he played it for voronin infront of gordon
