What's your best xi? - For next season

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby god_bless_john_houlding » Sat Jul 28, 2007 12:03 am

My starting 11 would be:
David Martin
Jay Spearing
Jamie Carragher
Daniel Agger
Robbie Threlfall
Paul Anderson (bring him back from Swansea)
Steven Gerrard
Ryan Flynn
Adam Hamill (Bring him back from Southampton)
Craig Linfield
Peter Crouch
:D

Sorry folks, waste of my time and your time reading it. Has to be:
Reina,
Finnan,Carra,Agger,Threlfall,
Pennat,Gerrard,Alonso,Babel
Torres,Crouch

I have been surprised to see the amount of people who have not included Babel in their sides but everyone is entitled to their opinion. From what I've seen of Babel (mainly U-21 Euro Championships), he posses a lot more quality than Kewell/Riise or even Aurellio down our left wing. Yossi is certainly a sqaud player as is Voronin IMO. A few of the youngsters we've brought in from abroad i.e. Lucas/Leto, hopefully we'll see them at some points during this coming season.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

For what it's worth:

Reina
Finnan
Carragher
Agger
Riise
Pennant
Gerrard
Mascherano
Kewell
Torres
Kuyt

Possibly Aurellio for Riise and Babel for Kewell depending on form come the season's start but with that eleven I think we should do well. Crouch and Yossi off the bench too and there is quality there, they just need to perform.

lets get heinze and go for

                                         Reina
Finnan                  Carra                   Agger             Heinze
                                       Mascherano
Pennantt                                                              Benayoun
                                Gerrard
                                               Torres
                                             Crouch

looks good to me... voronin or kuyt or even babel can come in for crouch if he doesnt perform...
kewell or riise or even babel in for benayoun if he cant adapt well..but i think he will..

gerrard has to play in the center...and please... no sissoko until he starts playing like a football and not rugby player ! we have other options..alonso, lucas...even benayoun as a central midfielder before i throw in sissoko if it was upto me !... against the top clubs... he gets a go!

Ok I know there's no chance that we will play a 3-5-2 next season but here goes.

                                                                    Pepe

                                   Agger                Hyppia                  Carra

                                                    Mascherano

    Gerrard                                                                                                  Riise

                                        Alonso                         Sissoko

I think this is some solid evidence against the anti-rotation people.  All of these formations offer different strengths and weaknesses, and some would match up better against different teams.  I do wish that we had more players that were (fitness aside) undroppable from the starting XI (in the league or Europe). Gerrard and Carra are certainly in that category, and probably Finnan and Reina as well, and Agger is approaching that level Hopefully we will have a forward that emerges in that category as well.

i think rafa could be looking along these lines 4-4-3 reina, 4 defence, finan.carra,agger,risse(heinze).  3 midfield gerrard, masc, alonso, 3 attack kewell, toress,(voronin),benyoun, i spoke to raffa yesterday and this is what he told me,were great buds

That's right, let's be 'positive' and say we're going to win the league, just like we did last season, season before, season before that.......................

No wait, those who were 'negative' were right. It's not negativity, it is realism. We WANT to win the league, just because we're not convinced we're that good yet doesn't make us negative.

By the by, here's the respective squad values so you tell me we're not up against it

Chelsea £246m
Man Utd £179m
Liverpool £102m

If we get Heinze and the mancs get Tevez they'll be another £22m in front and near double the amount spent.
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

I hate facts and figures about how much sides of spent. Yes I've said many times Rafa has had 100m+ to spend but overall that is a waste of time, because for price value, I'd rather have our side than any of the others and here's why for the spine of a side. Reina 7mill or Cech 14? Reina hands down because IMO he's a better keeper anyway. Carra for nothing, Ferdinand almost 30 mill, Carvalho 18 mill. Carra hands down because he's the best centre half in the world. Gerrard for nothing, Lampard 8 mill, Carrick for 16 mill, Stevie wins hands down because he's the world's greatest complete player. Crouch for 7mill, Rooney almost 30 or Drogba 24 mill, for price compared to quality I'd pick Crouch. If he played as often as the other 2, he would score as many goals certainly as Rooney and would come close to amount scored by Drogba and he cost us less than a 3rd of what United and Chelsea were prepared to pay.

If we want we can compare the rest of the side. Finnan/Neville/Ferriar. Neville wins because he didn't cost a penny. Agger/Terry/Vidic again for the same reason as Neville, Terry would win, but I wouldn't swap Terry for Agger. Cole/Evra/Riise, JAR wins in my eyes. 5 million for a left back who'll bang in 6/7 goals a season, not bad. Pennant/Ronaldo/SWP, Ronaldo has to win despite him costing double Pennant's price, he is worth every penny. Alonso/Hargreaves/Makelele, Xabi all day, one of the best technically gifted players in the world. Babel/Malouda/Nani, Babel was the cheapest out the 3 and what I've seen of them, he's the best as well. Torres/Tevez?/Shevchenko, for money again I'd choose the Liverpool player.

So for people who moan, United and Chelsea are streets ahead of us because they have spent tons and tons of money, is billhooks. Our players are as good if not better than any other side in Britain, the simple truth is 1) we're not consistant enough and 2) the tactics are constantly wrong. We spend as much money as most sides year in year out, so there's no reason why we can't challenge.

Where do you get those squad values from? The money we paid for those players? It's certainly not what they're now worth.

Gerrard and Torres are worth over £50 million (combined). Crouch and Alonso £30 million (I estimate £15m each). That's just four players.

Chelsea are so high because they've paid over the odds - £16m for Mikel !!
