Barcelona are understandly happy with the new frontline but it also means the Reds wont be buying him either.  Taken from the FC Barcelona website:

FC Barcelona Fire AC Milan  - 25th June 2007

FC Barcelona has sent out strong word to Italy about the futility of continuing the chase to sign Samuel Eto'o.

In response to renewed attempts by the Rossoneri to snatch Barca's strike-star, Samuel Eto'o from Camp Nou, FC Barcelona Vice-President, Ferran Soriano has sent an instant reply to his opposite counterpart in AC Milan, Vice-President Adriano Galliani and to the rest of the AC Milan team and Management Board. Soriano declared for the umpteenth time that:

Eto’o has made up his mind to stay with us here in Barcelona and we have made up our minds to keep him. There's no turning back on this. We are finalising a perfect strategy to see both Eto'o and Henry play side by side. Eto'o will stay with us here in Barcelona and I am saying this with all certainty and assurance.

AC Milan have been very eager to sign Samuel Eto'o after the Rossoneri declared they were out to get one major world class striker to play alongside their attack, comprising the likes of Filipo Inzaghi, in order to ensure they retain their UEFA glory next season. Milan Vice-President, Adriano Galliani has been obssessed with the thought of bringing FC Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o to Milan, which he has declared as a priority and affirmed recently that:

Although Barcelona are not selling any of their star players right now, we shall not relent in our efforts to get Eto'o. No, we shall not give up.

Many top English Premiership clubs like Arsenal FC, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea FC have all shown great interest in the African goal merchant, Samuel Eto'o, but on sensing Camp Nou will be very unwilling to release Eto'o, the clubs mellowed their efforts, bowing out one after the other. Now, with recent declarations from Ferran Soriano, Galliani's mission remains ever so impossible to achieve.

Torres forces issue over Anfield move

Fernando Torres is ready to confront his Atletico Madrid bosses in an effort to break the deadlock over his proposed move to Liverpool.

The Spain striker fears he is being priced out of a place in Rafa Benitez's plans, after being made aware of the Liverpool manager's interest, and intends outlining his misgivings to president Enrique Cerezo.

Atletico's £27million asking price is proving a stumbling block, though Liverpool could find a way round it by including Djibril Cisse and Luis Garcia in part exchange.

Cisse's £8m valuation would significantly reduce Liverpool's financial outlay, while moving to La Liga may well appeal to the Anfield misfit after he recently bought a Spanish holiday home in Sitges.

Cerezo confirmed Liverpool were stalling over the price tag on Torres, saying: "We have not had any offers from them for the player."

I agree with the comment that Torres and Kuyt would be a great combination but I would not want to see Crouch leave as he offers us something a little different.

Give them Zenden, Kewell, Arbeloa and Cisse in return for Torres I say :)

Shamelessly nicked this from RAOTL but it defo deserves a wider audience, to the Beatles tune:

THE BALLAD OF TORRES AND ETO'O

Standing in the rain outside Anfield
Trying to spot Thierry Henry
A man in the know said, "we’re signing Eto’o
He was spotted in a Breck Road chippy"

Christ you know it ain't easy
You know how hard it can be
If we don’t get someone
They're gonna crucify me

Finally made it onto the forum
The people say that I am a pain
Me mate calls to say
"You can make it OK
We’re gonna get that Torres from Spain"

Christ you know it ain't easy
You know how hard it can be
If we don’t get Torres
They're gonna crucify me

Save your favourite rumour for a rainy day
Tevez in the Newz bar brasserie
Last night the bird said
"You’re gonna mess with their heads
Cos they all want someone
who gets the goals - think!"

Swear that Torres he’s on the move la
The money’s in Atletico’s bank
But the newspaper said, "They’re signing Forlan instead"
But you know he’s sh#t and worse he’s a manc!

Christ you know it ain't easy
You know how hard it can be
If we don’t get Torres
They're gonna crucify me.
If we don’t get Torres
They're gonna crucify me.

I know some one who knows someone who works in the Welsh Wizards office . Word is Eider Gudjohnsons agent is talking to Liverpool . After the arrival of Henry , Gudjohnsons first team opportunities at the Nou Camp are now severely limited, he is apparently keen on a return to the premiership.

Tom Hicks and George Gillett didn't do their homework. They couldn't have. Instead of being shrewd investors, they are instead looking like the underpants gnomes from South Park who had a business plan that was missing a crucial step.

Step 1 - Collect Underpants
Step 2 - ???
Step 3 - Profit

Hicks and Gillett are getting a rude lesson in the cost of running an EPL franchise and Liverpool fans can't be happy with the learning curve they are on.

So instead of being able to go after their number one target with a handful of cash- Atletico Madrid's Fernando Torres; they are trying to con Atletico into taking some of Anfield's dead weight. So far, Atletico isn't biting.

Reports have Liverpool offering Djibril Cisse to Atletico to try and reduce the price for the prized forward from a reported £27million to around £15million.

This is just laughable.

Poor Liverpool, of all the foreign owners to come into England, I think they got the biggest shaft. Hicks and Gillett couldn't have known how expensive it was to run a top club in Europe and obvious bought into the club strictly looking for a profit.

Without even questioning whether or not Torres is worth that amount of money, he's not, it does appear that Liverpool is desperate for some spending cash, most notably by their statement that Cisse is for sale and won't go out on loan.

Everybody at Old Trafford was up in arms when the Glazers took over Manchester United, but watching the Red Devils spend freely so far this summer while Liverpool pinched pennies to try and get what they want makes me believe that Reds fans are the ones that need to be complaining about their new ownership.

Two guys who so far at least, don't seem to get it.

I think we all wish it was as simple as that though.  :upside:
