£40m is rumoured to be his buy out clause.

West Ham and the player have the final say on what happens, they hold his registration and have an agreement to do so for three years.

It is also likely that MSI have imposed a clause that allows them to terminate this agreement if a bid above a certain amount comes in.

Is it just me who can't see Tevez at Manure?

How the hell would they manage to get him and Rooney in the same team? They're almost identical.

Are all our scouts based in Spain?

Its as if there are no other forwards playing anywhere else.

Milito or Forlan for £16-18m for heavens sake.Surely not.

Honestly if we take Forlan for that kind of money it will be burn the shirt time!

Its no good buying unless you are making improvements. IMO these players are no better than what we have already.

If it costs all our budget lets just bring in one top class player and leave it there.

This is why I dont get all the "lets wait to La Liga has finished".  Surely all of our targets can not be in La Liga.  We must want some players who play elsewhere.

Our last 5 "big" buys have all come from outside Spain. Lucas, Bellamy, Crouch, Pennant, Agger.

No-one's saying let's wait until La Liga is over, it is just a place that we are likely to sign players from because it is a league Rafa trusts.

just be patient for one more week mate.....  then we'll know where and who are targets are.... whether or not rafa is waiting for la liga to get over....

I hope we sign a big name player too (as I've said many times I'd kick the door in for Eto), but if we don't I can't help thinking that many are being a little premature in their judgement of Forlan. He's a different player almost from the one who failed at Old Trafford, and on the couple of occasions I have seen him over the last two years I have been impressed. FWIW I don't actually think we will sign him, but he is a good player who would score regularly in my opinion.

I dont think we will sign Forlan either.

Thing is I sincerely hope not too because to pay serious money for a player rejected by our biggest rival would be a huge risk on Benitez part.

Its not just that he wore the Utd shirt (which is if he played like Pele would still be reason enough not too buy him IMO), but he just did not score enough in this league.

To throw £16m at a player who couldnt cut it in the Premier would be quite the gamble on Liverpools part no matter how well he has performed in Spain since then. A club record fee at that.

I cannot begin to imagine that Rafa could make such a mistake and put my faith in his better judgement not to put Forlan in a Liverpool shirt.

I guess that when we say big name we're talking about Eto'o or Villa.

Asking their clubs to release them is like somebody asking you to release Gerrard, they're absolutely key players.

In order to buy him, the amount that is rumoured Milan is going to put in the table, 30M, must be put over the table.

With 40M quid, I think they wouldn't resist the temptation to sell, because that money would be very handy for their finances, to be honest. Henry is strongly rumoured to land in Barcelona, and it's a prerequisite if Eto'o is going to leave, they'd never sell Eto'o without a class replacement.

So the big question is, will the americans put that money in Rafa's hands? Eto'o is the snoogy Doogy in football, will they help Rafa doing so? that's the question.

If we are able to move in the same parameters of money of Milan AC, I think we have a better chance than them, because Liverpool has the glamour that Milan hasn't and the English League is more attractive than the Italian one if you ask ANY Spanish player.

If it's not a Villa or an Eto'o, then you have the good-ish, second line options. Names like Kanoute, Milito, or Forlan.

It's all about money. Without money we can forget.

Ah, I forgot to mention. There's the big names, there is the good-ish second names, and there's the TRAPS. Never buy Torres for a big sum, it would be  a disgrace. A catastrophe. If you were :censored: off with Morientes, then you'll be climbing the walls of your room if we sign him up.

You're warned.

I rate militio, very good striker, but i think we can buy top quality players, it has been done before with other clubs and we have the money to purchase a 25m quid player.

easy

write a 25m check.  :D

Rafa must be prudent
Rafa Benitez has been warned by Liverpool’s American owners they will not splash out in the transfer market "like a drunken sailor".

George Gillett and Tom Hicks, who took over in February, have said that while cash is available for the Spanish manager, it is limited.

Benitez is frustrated that there have been no signings but Gillett insists Liverpool will buy players only as ‘part of a plan’.  (the daily mail)

MY QUESTION IS......... what is the plan ?? does anybody know the plan mentioned by the american owners ???? ???? i wonder if Rafa knows the plan ?

ALSO henry is gone...... forget him weve lost him

Thierry Henry appeared to be on the verge of a stunning £17million move to Barcelona last night, according to reports that emerged in France. The normally reputable magazine France Football announced on its official website that its cover story for today would reveal that an agreement has been reached between the Arsenal captain and the Spanish champions... (the daily mail)

AND what of BELLAMY......

Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has been told to jump at the chance to join his Wales team-mates at West Ham.

Bellamy, recently named Wales captain in the wake of Ryan Giggs' retirement from international football, is believed to be a summer target for the Hammers with a £9m fee mooted.

With Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez needing to sell players to bolster his transfer kitty, Bellamy and Harry Kewell could well be sacrificed.

Bellamy, already a target for Aston Villa, Blackburn and Newcastle, is wanted by West Ham boss Alan Curbishley as a partner for Dean Ashton with a £70,000 a week wages package on offer.

And Bellamy's arrival at Upton Park would meet with the approval of West Ham and Wales defenders Danny Gabbidon and James Collins.

Gabbidon said: He would love it at West Ham. He would be an instant fans' favourite. Craig is a quality player but what West Ham fans would love is that he never stops running, even if the team are 3-0 down.

"He is a defender's nightmare, like a terrier snapping at your heels. I have never known him give less than 100 per cent."

He added: "Craig would be a great signing for us and would definitely improve the squad.

"The manager has a lot of money to spend and Craig is the kind of player the club are trying to attract to improve the team so we do not have any relegation troubles next season.

"We have got Dean Ashton returning after missing last season after suffering a broken ankle. Dean and Craig would make a great partnership, Dean is a tall and skilful front man while Craig is a hard-working, quick striker with great movement."

Benitez needs to make a quick decision over Bellamy's future now he believes the proposed major funding from the new US owners of the club, George Gillett and Tom Hicks, will not be as much as he had expected.

But suggestions that he could walk away from the club this summer as the debate over funding continues, is wide of the mark with Benitez having already told friends he has no intention of taking that option.

But it is clear he will not have the sort of cash to buy the likes of Samuel Eto'o. However, with Liverpool making £29m from their run to the Champions League final, plus the Sky TV and Premiership prize money to come, Benitez can expect £40m plus to spend this summer.

With maybe £15m from the sale of fringe players, including a possible fee from Marseille for Djibril Cisse, Benitez can bolster his cash kitty considerably.

Benitez is now being linked with Real Zaragoza striker Diego Milito, who scored a stunning goal against Real Madrid on Saturday while being watched by Liverpool scouts.

Also linked with the Anfield club is Villarreal's Diego Forlan, who is on the verge of scoring 20 goals in a La Liga season for the third campaign on the trot. (the daily mail)

hmmmmm do we really have all that cash ?

if so who are we after ?
does anybody know ???

when will this "PLAN" be revealed by the americans ? and if we have all this cash available for transfers and buying new players then why are the americans telling rafa  they wont be spending like a drunken sailor ?
