Benayoun to be the bait in new bid for Bellamy
By JOHN EDWARDS - More by this author »

West Ham are ready to include Yossi Benayoun in a package aimed at persuading Liverpool to part with £9million-rated striker Craig Bellamy.

Anfield chiefs are bracing themselves for an approach for Bellamy, as revealed in Sportsmail yesterday, after West Ham manager Alan Curbishley identified the newly-appointed Wales skipper’s pace and movement as the qualities he will need if Carlos Tevez makes his expected departure.

Bait: Yossi Benayoun

Tevez’s uncertain future has come under close scrutiny at Anfield, but Benayoun is emerging as part of an equation that could end with Bellamy moving to Upton Park in a £70,000-a-week deal that would virtually double his earnings.

Midfielder Benayoun has yet to sign a five-year, £50,000-a-week contract with West Ham, and there were claims in Israel, after their 2-0 win over Andorra, that his representatives had agreed personal terms with Liverpool.

No such deal has been struck but Benayoun left the door open for a move to Anfield by saying: "I still haven’t signed with West Ham because of some small differences. They are my first aim but if another team want me we will consider it. If it is good for everyone, why not?"

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is known to admire Benayoun, having tried to sign him for Valencia before the 27-year-old left Racing Santander for Upton Park in a £2.5million transfer in July 2005.

Sportsmail understands Benitez would consider taking Benayoun, who has two years left on his contract, as part-payment for Bellamy as he continues to search for reinforcements on the flanks and up front.

With one-time Anfield target Simao Sabrosa thought to be heading for Lyon, Florent Malouda’s departure from the French champions looks to be close, although Liverpool bosses are less than impressed with the way he appeared to hedge his bets in an interview with L’Equipe yesterday.

"There are no offers at the moment but there has been direct contact," he said. "Chelsea and Liverpool have shown interest. I don’t know how it will be finalised but in my mind, I am certain I will leave.

"At Chelsea, there is Didier Drogba and all the rest but at Liverpool Rafa Benitez is a great coach, too, and the team have played in two Champions League Finals in three seasons. To me, the most important thing will be the desire shown by the clubs. To move abroad you really have to be wanted."

With Arsenal also monitoring Malouda’s availability, Liverpool are far from certain to land the French player of the year and may consider Benayoun’s versatility on either wing a useful asset.

Benitez is at least making headway in his bid to secure the futures of key members of his squad, with Xabi Alonso signing a five-year deal and Momo Sissoko indicating he will ignore overtures from Juventus and commit himself to another long-term contract.

Reports in Italy suggested the newly-promoted Turin giants had tied up a £10m deal for Sissoko but Anfield sources said talks with the 22-year-old midfielder’s agent were nearing completion and that he had signalled an intention to stay.

Full back Steve Finnan is next in line for contract talks...

A FAIRLY GOOD UPDATE ON OUR TRANSFERS...

BUT IM GOING TO SAY FOR THE FIRST TIME  THE MALOUDA DEAL LOOKS SHAKY...  ???

What the hell...? ???

Yossi Benayoun ...?? If we are going to sign players like him we are not going to be title contenders...
I've seen him play...not a bad player ,good dribling skill and has a good footbaling brain but he's lightweight and loses the ball quite alot , if the takeover did not go thourgh i would be content to see benayoun sign for us . But we had a takeover in order to take the club into another level , that means we must spend money on quality players , we already have player like him in the squad(garcia) , and i dunno how yossi would improve the squad....

This is what I read from goal.com:

The Barcelona camp continue to be assiduous in their courting of the Frenchman. "According to reports in Spain," as the saying goes, Barca have framed an offer of Samuel Eto’'o plus €25 million (£17 million) for Henry, with Txiki Beguiristain claiming that negotiations with Arsenal officials are already underway and that Arsene Wenger has agreed to the deal.
It's the fourth paragraph down on here http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=320026

RAFA FUMES AS TARGETS GO BEGGING
EXCLUSIVE
By Simon Mullock 10/06/2007

RAFA BENITEZ'S relationship with Liverpool's new owners has again become strained by their failure to land any of his transfer targets.

The Kop boss returned from a short family holiday on Thursday angered by the fact that George Gillett and Tom Hicks still haven't swapped promises for hard cash.

Benitez has not been pacified by Liverpool's success in securing Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Xabi Alonso and Pepe Reina to new long-term contracts, with Momo Sissoko and Steve Finnan also expected to commit themselves to the club this week.

The Spaniard wanted to see new blood on Merseyside - and now fears his warning to Gillett and Hicks that they risk losing the players he wants to bring in because of their inaction is beginning to come true.

Inter Milan are now in pole position to land Samuel Eto'o if he decides to quit Barcelona in the summer, with the Catalans' £40m price-tag out of Liverpool's league.

The suggestion that Benitez would use Barca target Alonso as bait has now been blown out of the water by the midfielder's new contract agreement.

Lyon's £8m-rated Florent Malouda now looks certain to snub Anfield advances and opt for a move to Chelsea. Seville's Daniel Alves, Real Zaragoza defender Gabriel Milito, Valencia's David Silva and West Ham's Carlos Tevez also feature prominently on Benitez's wish-list - the question is whether he will land any of them.

Three weeks after launching a stinging attack on his Anfield paymasters in the aftermath of the Champions League Final defeat by AC Milan for not getting their act into gear, Benitez is facing competition on all fronts in the transfer market.

Brazilian international Alves - a long-term Liverpool target - is now being courted by Real Madrid, while the Spanish giants have also joined Juventus in the race for Argentine hardman Milito.

Silva, rated at £12m by Benitez's former club Valencia, is being courted by Tottenham and Chelsea and has hinted that a move to London would suit him.

Tevez remains an option - but not at the £25m being quoted.

Benitez's beef has nothing to do with the amount of money he will be allowed to spend and revolves purely around his frustration that Liverpool's American owners do not seem to have grasped the intricacies of football's market despite his repeated warnings.

All that and not a single quote  :D

Players such as Eto or David Villa were never realistic targets.  We cant compete in that end of the market.  Utd have spent £50 mil on 3 players, I Doubt we even have £50 mil total budget.

The Malouda deal seems to be dragging on and on and I dont see a solution as long as the club keeps trying to sign players on the cheap.

i'm hoping that a lot of these reports about Rafa being unhappy/fuming whatever will prove baseless. Just story making given the lack of signings but the fact that one by one the key players are committing their futures are good signings in themselves and am sure they would not have done that if they did not have confidence in Rafa's planned signings or on the intention of the American to bankroll it all either. Ok fine Tevez may go elsewhere etc, but the rest is just idle journalism with writers not having anything else to do. La Liga is done in a week if nothing is announced within a month of that (assuming players may opt for a break first) then we can start to worry a little.

Give me Bent from Charlton before Forlan any day.
I rate the big man and think he would be a good signing.
