2 years ago some fans wanted Owen back.  2 years later and how many games has Owen actually played?

Putting personal feelings regarding how he left the club if Owen can get over his injury problems then you would not be able to sign a player of his quality with Premiership experience for £9 million.

Im not going to start debating his preference for England or contract issues but from a purely footballing point of view his signing would be very good.

The Mancs are offering £27million + Saha for Berbatov a player who scored 12 league goals

This for me is a difficult one.

If its 9 million, and he can stay fit then its an absolute steal and could be just what we need.
But at the moment with the injuries he has had, it could be a massive gamble. Now i know people will say he would have a stringent medical, but it just seems the lads jinxed, he gets all different kinds of unpredictable injuries.
Despite the major mistakes he has made in the past i would be delighted if we signed him again. But if that was the only striker then i would also be extremley worried.
Tevez and Owen with Kuyt and Crouch staying and Voronin as the 5th striker could be fantastic.
Added to the fact that its another english player when this supposed new ruling comes in. (not that i know much about it, if i am honest)

Isn't Owen on +100,000 a week at Newcastle? That's what is being said atleast...

When you factor that in, he's a huge gamble given his injury record. You all look at 9 million as a bargain for a top player, but that's 9 million plus 5-6 million a year in wages.

I wouldn't want him back if he's going to be on a silly wage...

9 million for owen  not bad buisness  but dont forget his wages  the toons give him 130,000 grand a week   i cant see liverpool offering him the same,  if he takes a wage cut   maybe the deal will happen,   but im not sure if owen would take a wage cut even for his belloved liverpool...   ???

Please, enough of the paper talk.

In all likelihood I doubt he earns anything like £130,000 a week. It was reported during the time of his transfer to Madrid that he would be earning £80,000 a week.

Do these reporters actually see Owens contract,

No.

They inflate the figure so people will find it more fascinating to read.

I can't believe that he wasn't aware that Newcastle would offer him much higher wages than we would, before he went there,HE STILL WANTED TO COME BACK. So I would imagine he would still come back now for less money

I'd love to know how much of all of these rumours etc. are true. Some managers must read the papers and have a bloody good laugh at times.

'Sources'!!!

:D

No-one has seen his contract, nor have they asked his agent, so you can't claim it's £80,000 or closer to £130,000.

We don't know!

How often are 'sources' correct anyway, many of these papers make up 'sources' just to make their story sound more plausible and more of a lure for tabloid readers.

How many times do you see "a story was published in last weeks Mail, we now accept that story was false" in a small side column in a Sunday paper.

Quite bloody often.
