Good old fashioned thread this - You've got a blank cheque...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby The Ace1983 » Thu May 24, 2007 7:00 pm

In light of what transpired last night, perhaps we would do well to look to the future. So let's have a bit of old fashioned fantasy football. So here's the scenario: Tom and George sit you down (you being the manager of Liverpool FC) and write you a blank cheque. They tell you to go out and buy 5 players who would realistically be interested in signing for LFC. Bare in mind that we have CL status, we reach a final every year and we are said to be going places very soon. So, who do you sign? And why?

Here are my five:

Eto'O - He scores goals, he hates Drogba and wants to venture out to pastures new (if we believe the press). He isn't a risk and though he has a slightly questionable attitute, he has the cutting edge, the movement and an eye for goal.

Owen - He never should have left and I can't believe that he's happy at Newcastle. If he came back, he would come with the knowledge that no other club can satisfy him and I am sure that he would strive to prove his love again. Okay, so he picks up the odd injury, but he still scores. And we wouldn't be that much down on the fee that we sold him for. £4million maybe? Think of that as one Josemi, or half an Alonso.

Bale - Tottenham and man Utd are apparently fighting it out, but he's not their's yet. Definately one for the future and an investment worth making.

Ribery - Keeping in line with Rafa's policy of having two quality players in every position, a French international winger would Pennant working hard (though he works fantastically hard anyway) so he would be a good shout. Really, any quality right winger would do, though if Kewell, Garcia and Aurelio are going to get injured again, maybe the left is more critical. basically, a winger.

Kaka - Now this might be a controversial choice, and we did keep him very quiet in the final. But not everyone has Carragher, Agger, Mascherano... etc. Would we be able to sign him? Probably not, but if you had the cash, wouldn't you take a punt? He is fantastic and it never hurts to have another Brazilian in the squad. If we had him, then Gerrard could go back to playing where he wants and how he wants.

What it is to dream, eh? You never know, but i suspect Rafa will be a bit more frugal (and realistic) than me. So who makes it onto your 5 man wish list and why?

Well aren't you a clever little boy. I bet your parents are proud of a child that has nothing better to do than kick people while they're down. Often a symbol of fatherly rejection I'm lead to believe. Did daddy not love you? I think you need a cuddle and a time out, and no tv for a week. That's what your daddy should have done. Guess he was too  busy for little you, eh?

Messi - My first choice one of the few players in the world( not wearing a liverpool shirt) that i would pay to watch, an absolute genius with a football

Kaka - Agree he was quiet last night, but still set up the second and was wrongly offside earlier on in the game, Gerrad rates him as one of the best and quickest midfielders in the world ( thats good enough for me :D )

Berbatov- Amazing touch, technique and an eye not only for goal but also for a pass, good in the air and with both feet

Owen - Already done to death, said all i need to say about him in the new Owen thread

Ronaldo- The Man U one not Milans buck toothed wonder, kills me to say it but has to be one the best right wingers in the world at the moment, a lot of players would of curled up and dissapeared after the world cup but he became even better and now (most of the time ) stays on his feet, and looks up

Samir Nasri- ( i know its 5 players but i figured with  blank cheque i can have 6  :rasp ) One for the future only 19 but have heard great things about him, really quickwith a hell of a shot with either foot and full of tricks. The new Zidane ( Cheyrou anyone)

1, Vincent Kompany. A tough player who has the finesse of Hansen but the speed & positional sence of Ronaldo (that Manure one) & I also feel he has the maturity to compete for a regular place in the team without throwing his dummy out if not picked ahead of Agger or Carra.

2, Leroy Lita. I know it'll not be popular but this lad is a winner & has more passion in his little finger than all our forwards put together. Forget Tevez or Torres, Lita will be an England international next season & after bagging a netfull of goals the premiership big boys will be selling there grannys for him.

3, David Bentley. Already knocking on Englands door & next season I think Wenger will realise he made a bit of a big gaffe selling this lad for a steal. He'd cost the wrong side of six million now but would still be better buisness the Pennant. He can play on both wings can use both feet & has a cracking shot on him.

4, Morten Gamst Pederson. Another Blackburn player & one we're tipped to be buying in the summer. Gamst is a fantastic old style left centre & a player who will fit into Liverpools midfield without any problems. We'll be paying eight million plus but that for a proven quality player will look like money well spent next season.

5, Blank cheque eh? Well I'd love David Villa. The best striker in Spain & he'd cost £40 million give or take a tenner. Villa is the perfect center forward. Strength, positional, power & flair. All this & he tracks back never seems to get tired. Love him.
