Happy to be a squad player and take a wage cut ?!? is this the same micheal owen that has been around for years ? when has he ever been happy for that ? Never and he wont start now . We cant gamble anymore .

Would rather get someone like Daniel Sturridge on  free than Owen . That guy has a future .

Owen in the past was the main man and could do whatever he pleased.
Thats the past though, he knows he cant command 100 grand a week when he moves and he also knows that if he was to go to a top 4 team it would be as a squad player.

Sturridge is a decent prospect and definately worth a look but Owen would still score goals and is not finished yet.

But Owen himself doesnt think he is in the past - still thinks he is the main man at a club and would want the benefits that come along with it . He knows a club will give him want he wants and will pick to go there . If you give him a choice of going to liverpool to be a squad player on 70 grand a week or to go to City or Spurs on 100 grand a week and be a starter - which do you think he will pick - Easy - City or Spurs .

I think he would pick Liverpool.

I am not sticking up for him cos i know whats gone on in the past but he has f'cked things up himself in the past going just for money.

I genuinely think that he knows its his last chance to compete at the top, play champions league football and get to later stages of cup tournaments etc.
Due to that i think he would come to us ahead of the others.

For free its a good thing surely.  We could always sell him in January :D

I would take Duff as he is a quality player but went to the wrong club, again the Toon waving their chequebook.  The discipline and standards at Melwood should sort him out

Totally agree, we don't want players who are not going to bring us something new. We can do better than this bunch of hasbeens and wannbes.
As much as there is a place in my heart for Owen he would be, behind N'gog in the pecking order. I would seriously like us to get someone good enough to be, behind Nando in the forwards pecking order.
I am sure Rafa has someone in mind.

Owen should be signed even if we do end up paying big for another forward... on a free and he still has what it takes to make it at the top level... Just look at his scoring record even at Newcastle and with all the injuries, incredible really... Another plus is that him and Gerrard have always had a great understanding... Perfect backup for Torres and in a club like ours where he doesnt have to come too deep too often like he did with Newcastle in the past couple of seasons im sure he can chip in with quite a few goals to help us in any title challenge we mount... He still has a fair bit to offer imo and considering he'll be coming on a free i dont really think he'd make that big a gamble.. And wages arent a big deal to me, if we can offer sh1tbags like Dossena, Degen and Babel weekly wages in tens of thousands then we can sure as fck pay Owens wages with little trouble... not like we have too many players on high wages as things stand...

sorry cant see it - leopard doesnt change his spots - football is second in his priorities these days with his horses coming first . The guy is a mercenary and shown it twice before when he first turned down Rafa when he went to Madrid then he followed the money again to Newcastle . He used to be a great striker but not anymore . No point in even considering him . Owen is not the Owen of 4 seasons ago - Too many injuries and not enough goals.

Too many people writing off a champion player here. He was world class and at his age is still capable of being world class. He still seems to have the drive and professionalism to play at the top level and that's half the battle, IMO he just need a bit of luck with injury and he could very well return to near his best and be an extremely valuable player for Liverpool.

Some are using Kewell as an example of why not to sign Owen. I'd use Kewell as an example of why we should sign Owen. He's been fantastic this season, a fresh start has done him the world of good.

What makes Owen a risk when we'll be signing him for free on a bosman ?
Would you rather we paid 5-10 mill on an average unknown from Italy or Spain who might or might not make it in the prem ?!
Atleast we'd know with owen that if he stays fit, then hes a top class player WHO WILL score goals and make a difference.. THAT, HE HAS PROVED THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER, EVEN DURING THE PAST 3 SEASONS WITH NEWCASTLE.
FFS even with all the injuries hes still managed more goals than some of the so called top class forwards who play full seasons with their clubs...

There is that word IF he stays fit - he hasnt managed that much in the last 3 years . And its a risk when you fork out 100 grand a week for someone to not play much .
Bosmans are never free- 5 mil signing on fee - 5 mil wages prob more .

Owens time at a top club is gone . If he hadnt played for liverpool before i bet 99.99999% of people wouldnt want him near the club

Well you just have to ask the newcastle fans what they think of him - There answer would be - Waste of money they have ever spent who only looks after himself and is a has been . A player for a mid table team not a title chasing team

i dont think anyone is suggesting we take him back as a partner for Torres, but after our transfer dealings are done which i hope includes a top striker then and only then if the option is there then why not, yes there are ifs and buts, but if we can get him fit and firing what a bargain it could turn out to be, i very much doubt he would do any worse than Robbie Keane,
