Newkit lfc player standings award - Give them points

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

3 - Kuyt, hitting form at the right time
2 - Pennant
1- Arbeloa

Other mentions go to Alonso and Gonzalez. Both had good games but the final ball let them down too often to get points. At least Gonzalez is gaining confidence now.

The thread is meant so that we give our opinions as we usually do in these boards, but with an attempt to quantify those opinions.

i know the intention of the thread, thats plainly obvious. But in being able to arrive at a score given to each player, you'd expect to have at least witnessed the game surely?

Lots of folks just catch the edited highlights on BBC or SKY, or even Youtube et al.. and its a fools game trying to form a valid opinion from 10 -15 minutes of footage alone.  Its hard enough gauging a true performance from watching the entire game through 3 or 4 judiciously selected camera angles along with copious amounts of drivel by way of 'informed' analysis to compliment it,  compared to the real thing via your own eyes and ears. Of course which the majority of us cannot ever realise for one reason or t'other.  Equally so, becoming 'wise' from ingesting a couple of ill conceived paragraphs written in black and white in a daily rag as being gospel.  Not ALL the written press is as bad as its portrayed neither. At least the opinions offered from their standpoints are based on substance and not supposition. Helpful maybe. But still not as relevant as to actually following the players movements off the ball for example in the flesh. etc..

Dont get me wrong, i can see the 'fun' element in offering a semi-measured view of how best to proclaim the three most efficient performers by way of a 'points' system in the forum. Thats not what i queried.....The clarification you have offered is noted and fully accepted.  The idea by and large is to be applauded (if taken for the lighthearted way in which its clearly intended). However...what i CANT understand is why so many, are giving their opinion based on the above criteria per se as opposed to a 'live' comprehension as to how they come to arrive at such conclusions in the first place..and then stand by their assertions as though they are FACT. (and some will). Ultimately, no doubt in the near future - these villains of the piece will be spawning all kinds of threads in the affirmative/negative of players 'respectability' levels, wholly calculated from nothing less than the results correlated and declared relevant at the end of the experiment.

like i say, im not decrying the whole idea of it...i just wanted to understand better the parameters that have been set in place for it to be viable..against pure speculation over the authenticity of peoples marks that are put up for the record.

Wordy!

I think this is solely meant to be based on opinion.

The parameter is 'Who do you think the top three Liverpool players where today?'

I for one wouldn't post unless I watched the whole game.

If you want to restrict this to those that attended the game there will be very few votes.

I don't see how you could enforce any restrictions on people voting. If people want to vote after reading a press review of the match then let them (I don't know why they would). This thread will never produce a statistically significant result but over the course of the 60-odd games of the season will give us a good idea of the seasons most consistent performers.

I like this idea a lot.

The criticism of Red37 is fair, but can be applied to the whole commenting experience not this compo only. It's true, not only here, but everywhere, that people base their opinions on what they read, or simple highlights. You can see that everytime somebody sees  a video and says "sign him up!". But you can't control that neither.

I like to watch games properly, otherwise not give my opinion.
Sometimes I see them twice, it's the good thing about watching them downloaded.

Anyway, I'm SURE that this kind of points will give more credit to players that do not receive it easily, or it's credit is easily forgotten. That was admittedly, my "hidden" reason to do this here :)

Arbeloa 3.....Firstly because he has been like a duck to LFC water in my mind. The guy has came to a club that before he joined meant nothing to him.
I like him,he has passion and wants to prove his worth..he works hard and has shown the defencive capabilities that seemed alak in his first few games.A very sensible and solid performance that warrants a start on Wednesday!.....Very promising player!

Kuyt 2....Today we seen a man fighting and begging for a chance to play against Chelsea in the semis....It begs the question from me,Why can he not play like that all the time?Raffa surely must feel the same...Regardless great display and a good player..not good enough though...and as clinical as a kipper with its fins on fire!

Pennant 1...Everyones fav at the moment...LFCs Ronaldo?? :D or Ron

Well played again..but the amount of times that he cuts in and out then thinks about his ASBO is wrong..That fella has ambition and drive, given a regular start he can create havoc in any defence in the world!HE NEEDS GAMES!

Well done LFC.....Well done lads!

One time, I saw a man looking at me, yes, with his eyes. And then, he, he picked up a tube. And he looked, in the tube, and he made the moon big, inside the tube. The moon big inside a tube! Waahaha... Aaah. Telescope.
