1) A clean sheet (Hallelujah!)
2) Another goal from a corner
3) A headed goal from Crouchy
4) The return to fitness of two key players: Kuyt and Sissoko
5) A commanding position in the group

It's all well and good saying we need to play more attractive, dominating football but we need to crawl before we can walk.  The good result will help calm the nerves and re-establish some confidence.  If we can carry that forward into Sunday's match and get a result at Old Trafford, there may yet be hope for this damp squib of a season.

Dont you think after 3 years we should be at the level required?

Yes and no we where high then we had a major overhaul in personell, its not easy on the settled squad that was laready inplace.
You should gradually bring in new personell.
And us we where the biggest complainers out with the deadwood like a bunch of screaming witches, maybe just maybe it wasnt such a good idea to put all that wood on the bonfire after all.
Better the devil you know, you know what I mean  :)

Im not sure if those brought in have actually made us a better side.  Is Pennant good enough?  Is Bellamy really a top striker who can score 20 goals?  Is Aurelio top quality?

I like Gonzales and believe he needs to be given time but the others to me really need to step it up if that want to convince me that they are Liverpool FC class.

As for Zenden.  Only Rafa can answer why he plays this guy.  Useless!!!

Got the 3 points, thats the main thing.

Poor performance overall though, we should be beating them comfortably really but even though we played bad we grinded out a win which is what any good team does on occasions, we should be through now aswell, not too bad for a team thats been performing well below its best.

Pray to the lord allmighty that we play better against the septic tanks though.

The current squad hasn't been together three months let alone three years.  Give it time, the attractive football and the results will come.

that pretty much sums my two-penneth up as well.

although we'll get murdered sunday if thats the current 'level' we are to play at again. vast improvement is needed. but, yeah 3 points is good news. they'd be even better appreciated against man.utd though.

DEFENCE: did well under reasonable pressure late on. sami and jc in particular. the full-backs did well also.riise' pass to garcia was sublime and led eventually to the goal. finnan was better.

MIDFIELD: poor show. no-one grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and innacurate passing made for a frustrating night. at times it looked as though 2 consecutive passes were a difficult ask. sometimes it appears as though there is too much anxiety on the ball - instead of the one-touches and hopeful 20 -30 yard stabs. why cant somebody have just put the foot on it and build from the back with measure.

ATTACK: ran their socks off, but no real decent service again. Crouch took his chance well but should of had at least 2 goals tonight. at times he came far too deep for me. bellamy did ok, no more. and "ok, no more" isnt enough. Kuyt looked obviously out of sorts, but showed enough to maintain the optimism.

better, but not good enough.

3 points appriciated but I hope and pray we start playing some decent football from now on.
We are letting poor teams look good even better than us at times.
Tonight when I watched the game it seemed like Liverpool where Bordeaux and they where us if you get my drift.
Tons of possesion shots on goal, corners free kicks and it just didnt go in.
I dont think I could stand watching Liverpool playing like other teams play against us.
3 points no authority
no one fears us
First away goal in the CL in 1 year terrible stats considering we won it the year before.
I just have no positives to take from this game what so ever.
The meeting on sunday obviously didnt work.
Rafa its time to start threatening with the sack Im afriad.
Dont these players know who they are playing for?
I have cryed, I have laughed, they have given me so much joy and pleasure, but when they under perform its so easily forgotten.
I wish they they didnt make me forget my memories because I love them with all my heart, they have ruined my relationships because I was more in love with Liverpool than me fella.
I just want something of that back, it shouldnt be that hard to do since they earn in one week what I earn in a year.
Liverpool pull yer fe.ckin socks up for gods sake your putting us through agony.
Please turn it around.

You need to realise that we're talking about something like 5 matches, Cigs.

It's a year because we went out in the last 16.

The c*nts on TV love to say "it's a year since..." because it's dramatic.

We probably haven't beaten Accrington Stanley in over 100 years, but the fact we probably have never played the feckers doesn't come into a presenter's commentry.

I thought we did well tonight against a lively Frog side. Their diving was f*cking disgraceful, and I hope to be at Anfield when we play the bell ends so I can personally fart in their general direction! :D

COme on folks - we're top of our group - what more do you want?

Some sort of performance, a bit of desire, a few passes strung together would be nice mate. Its a good job the frogs couldnt jump because if they were a half decent team we would have gone down tonight. I only usually feel this bad after we lose, maybe its 'cos we play the Mancs next.

Our midfield looked :censored: on paper and then went and proved it! Dont worry mate I will bounce back by Sunday, hopefully so will the team.

The thing is, everyone was moaning that we never get results when we're playing badly, so we go and do that very thing as STILL folks moan!!!!! :D

I know the midfield was sh*te, but to be fair, it only had 1 first choice player in it. (Alonso).

Would the scum or even Sh*tski be able to go away from home in the CL and win without Fat Frank/Scholes(Stevie), Essien/Carrick(Momo), Shevchenko/Spooney(Kuyt who was not fit), Carvalho/Brown/Ferdinand(Agger) and Robben/Giggs (Kewell, who you must admit is our 1st-choice left winger right now)?

You know the Scum would have drawn at best, and Sh*tski would have struggled even more as they are lost without a regular line-up in Europe, owing to their lack of pedigree.

The only positives for me where the result. Bellamy who I thought ran his balls off all night for little reward, and Hyypia who looked back to something like his best. I just wished Pennant had played then I could enjoy calling someone. I feel too sorry for Zenden to start slating him.

I forgot, Momo was a big positive too.

This is the most downbeat I have seen you, and it comes on the back of an away victory in the Champions' League!

I think people need to stop looking at this game as a barometer of our form at the moment.  Away games in Europe are always tricky affairs and that lot wasn't helping the game out with all of their air ballet--it was always going to be a disjointed, grind-it-out affair.

And, as Lando's mentioned, Alonso was our only "best 11" midfielder on the pitch and that's where this match broke down for us.  Our defence was solid, our forwards worked hard but the midfield simply could not keep possession let alone dictate tempo or provide service for the forwards.  In the end it took a rare set-piece goal for us to eek out the points.

BUT...

Come Sunday we'll have Momo back and probably Stevie as well.  That just leaves the LM position to fill (hopefully, not by Stevie again) so I think we'll see a much better performance.

I'd agree with that, mate.  He seemed to be constantly popping up in and around the centre circle and just seemed to congest the space that Alonso and Zenden were trying to operate in.  Plus, on at least two occasions Reina knocked a goal kick long and it was Bellamy rather than Crouch who was looking to knock it down, because Crouch was too close to the midfield.

On the upside, he didn't let his head drop after that shocking miss in the first half and his power and placement on the header were sublime.
