If we do build a new stadium, why then for 60,000 and not for 70,000 fans? Looking at the position of the proposed new ground, there is more than enough room. Stanley Park would of course become smaller.
Another way of fitting more fans into the ground, is, of course, 3 or 4 tiers above each other. No doubt this option has been considered, anybody know if that would be a problem.

I can't find the link anywhere but I read up on the new ground and all the different options a year or 2 ago. One option WAS expanding Anfield to 55,000 and the architectural renderings looked feckin amazin. The main stand was massively expanded with like a big curving roof and the Kop was also expanded. Can't remember what the Annie & Centenary looked like but overall it looked superb, kind of place that would intimidate the hell out of visiting teams.

But then came the crunch; the cost of that proposal was noticeably MORE than building a new 60k place fom scratch due mainly to engineering complexities and also legal obstacles involving purchasing land and property. The other issue was that it would be virtually impossible to engineer-in the option for further expansion in the future so basically it would be 55k full stop, forever. A new place on Stanley Park however would be easy to design so that future expansion was straightforward

I'd love it if we could expand Anfield but let's face it it's never gonna happen. I'm not against a new ground at all though either. All the things that have made Anfield the place it is today is the people who are there and the teams that have played there. It's not like we're gonna be leaving all that behind, these things would be there at the new ground too. Don't forget that at Anfield although the location is the same, three quarters of the ground dates from 1992 or later and apart from the Kop going seated it hasn't detracted from the atmosphere of the place. I'd miss the place like hell but we'd soon get used to a new place - the same people, the same team, the same songs, the same banners, the same banter. Just bring over stuff like the Shankly gates and the Hillsborough flame and we'd all soon learn to love it

It would be nice to get to 70,000 but 60k is a very round number. It's not just the amount of seats though, more advanced facilities etc could be installed.

It looked very intimidating. Stands very close to the pitch.

Enclosed on all sides. Brilliant.

cheers manhatten i hadnt seen that picture, so now we know it could be done, still think the main stand could do with a little re-design. but alas this is all pie in the sky because very soon the club will be given the lease for the land in stanley park and work will probably start in the new year.

The costs were said to be £80 million for 60K and £130 million for 70K, but now the 60K stadium is said to cost £180 million. If the difference between 60K and 70K is still "only" £50 million it might be worth looking at changing design.

If we build 60K with no scope for further expansion, then that seems a bit short sighted. Hopefully whatever we do will have future potential to be bigger. (Can anyone tell me if planning permission was a factor in determining the upper limit on the stadium capacity?)

As for the new stadium design, I quite liked it. I haven't jumped onto the 'soulless bowl' bandwagon. Onwards and upwards for me.

On the issue of rebuilding Anfield, surely we'd have to groundshare with Everton if the rebuilding was to go ahead? Their is no way all that work could get done in the pre-season.

What a bunch of kunts those local residents are. They're holding us to randsom. Liverpool FC has offered to put them in better houses. I wouldn't turn that down. But we'll have the last laugh becasuse they'll have to put up with 60,000 screaming liverpool fans rather than 45,000 and they'll be stuck in there homes. Infact they'll be stuck in the middle of two liverpool stadiums.

the fact is regenerating anfield aint gonna happen. The new site is so close it wouldn't be really like moving. I mean its like building a new house in your back garden. The increase in capacity would be great but what you are all forgetting is the amount of money we would make from corporate hospitality. I know that sounds like the prawn sandwich brigade, but hey, they would give us money. I mean im not that rich but i'd try to buy a few seats in a box. All the family chip in, you never know.

I'd like our stadium to light up like munich's. Imagine it on a european night. :censored:

down then bang! A beautiful red stadium. Scare the :censored:

out of opposition. Especially the noise we make.

I can't wait and will miss Anfield, but i missed my ex until i got a new one.

I know from going on the stadium tour about 10 years ago the club were gearing up for expanding the main stand which would make the ground hold around the 55,000 mark. The one thing the guide did say though was that it all depended on getting hold of all the houses in the street behind the main stand which after the hold ups caused in the re-build of the centenary stand could take quite a few years.
When the new stadium was originally announced it was going to be 70,000 but then it was reduced to 60,000 because the infrastructure around the area wouldn't be able to cope with 70,000 fans as well as the inconvenince it'd cause local residents.
I'm going to miss Anfield in it's current state but it's already been said that most of it is only 15-20 years old and it's not been the same since the old kop went so with 60,000 fans in a new stadium we should be able to make even more noise to scare the shit outta the opposition.

I'm not too bothered if we give the naming rights away;
what is more important is that the new design means that the maximum noise
from the new kop will be heard on the pitch.
The atmosphere must be retained (well, euro nite atmos anyway)

I cant believe the design of the place. It has no character.

I think the new design should have started with a 25000 seater new kop, and the rest of the stadium designed around this!

It will be a SAD SAD day whe we play our last game at Anfield. And like everyone else i would love us to stay were we are.

As a welsh man i had the same thoughts when they decided to knock down the Arms park and build the Millennium Stadium . The main concern was that the atmosphere would not be there but once you step foot inside the stadium your worrys are put to bed. The important part of the design was to build the stands very steep so the crowd feels on top of the crowd.

I hope the designers of the new anfield take this into account when the put the drawings together because the last thing we need is to have the stand no where near the pitch like most stands in europe.
