Best starting 11 and subs - Your choice

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I don't know about starting Gonzalez straight away as, surely like most newly arrived South Americans, he should be started as a sub who comes on in the second half and gradually make the first team after 4-5 appearances as he'd need a bit more time to adjust to the hurly burly and pace of the English game.

I'd expect Pennant and Bellamy to be thrown right into the deep end of things and start straight away.

                       Reina

Finnan       Carra           Hyppia     Riise

Pennant   Momo/Gerrard  Alonso   Zenden

                   Gerrard/Fowler

                              Bellamy

Gerrard would either play behind Bellamy with licence to roam if Momo is in midfield or Gerrard in midfield and Fowler a bit behind Bellamy. I fancy Bellamy to make a real nuiscence of himself to opposition defenders and continue his good scoring record in the EPL, as he had done at weaker clubs in the past.

Rafa would slowly introduce Gonzalez and Aurelio as they get more acclimatised. Crouch would be the "Plan B" player/sub depending on the opposition.

I'd be surprised if Rafa doesn't look to loan him out again this season

I like Pongolle and think he could play a part for us but I don't think he'll get to play many games this year unless injuries kick in. If Pongolle is patient his chance will come. He is different from anything else we have, speed and trickery and an eye for goal. But Flo will have to be patient and wait for the chance in the first team and when he gets it he has to grab it with both hands. Pongolle chanes are more likely to come in the League Cup, where a lot of our bit part players will play.

My starting 11 for the League Cup would be:
Carson
Darby
Paletta
Agger
Warnock
Anderson
Potter
Zenden
Aurellio
Pongolle
Linfield

It will be like this:-
1) Reina
2) Finnan
3) Carragher
4) Hyppia
5) Riise
6) Pennant
7) Alonso
8) Sissoko
9) Gonzalez
10) Stevie G
11) Bellamy..

IMO, since Rafa bought Bellamy, he sure wants to play a long ball game.. Bellamy got the pace and skills.. Stevie and his wingers will support the lone striker, where all 3 got the pace too.. That leaves Alonso and Sissoko guarding the fort in the middle of the field.. And Rafa seldom plays two striker last season.. Cheers..

I don't think we have a starting 11. I think we have definate starters but not 11 of them. Reina, Carra, Stevie, Xabi, Momo and Bellamy. I think those 6 will start almost every game this year, depending on injuries of course.

rafa won't risk another burnley mate

after all liverpool are tring to compete in all competions, not send lambs to the slaughter why would you put all the youth out and risk going out early?

Hmm well it has been Rafas mentality in the league cup the past 2 seasons to put out youth players, them youth players got us to the final in Rafas first season remember, but yeah we certainly dont want another Burnley happening or crystal palace, i would put out a few of our first teamers for the league cup but with some of the young talent mixed in, it would give the youth experience while give us the chance to rest some of the first team

rafa has far more depth in is first team now to justify not playing to many of the youth team

but it is vital that we bring player through the rank anderton and hobbs seem to have the best chance and palleta will play more when he has settled imo, agger will play cup games and imo is the next one to break into the first team as fresh legs for sami

Yeah good point about having more depth in the squad these days, i didn't think of that, still i think some of the best youth players should get a bit of a run out in the league cup

I think you lads are right. Despite the youth team's win last year, I don't think that many will break through. But looking at my 11 for the league cup, how many are youth team players.

Carson has played in the first team and in the champions league and is England U21's regular keeper and went to the world cup.

Darby was our youth team captain and we keep looking for cover for Finnan maybe it's him.

Palleta and Agger are young but will probably be our future centre half pairing so give them as many opportunities to play together.

Warnock has been in and out of the first team for a while now, so I wouldn't class him as youth any more.

Anderson is tipped as the star from the youth so he has to be given a go. And I think he isn't quite ready for our current squad but certainly playing in cup competitions will help.

Potter and Zenden are both first team members. So again there is more experince.

Aurellio, after his injury wont be put straight into the side so this cup may be his chance to get fit and play games.

Pongolle has been a part of the first team squad for a while and again experince and linking up with youth cup winner Linfield can only improve Linfield.
