Best starting 11 and subs - Your choice

Reina

       Finnan          Carragher       Hyppia          Riise

       Pennant        Sissoko          Gerrard          Gonzalez

                          Crouch           Bellamy

Subs. Dudek. Garcia. Fowler. Alonso. Agger

I have never seen paletta or aurellio play so haven't included tham. Do you think Mellor and FSP, have a future with us. I reckon FSP looks like he could be a very skillful player with pace, at the moment he just lacks consistency. Mellor I am unsure of, but without these two we probably wouldn't have beat olympiakos in the champions league winning season.

Here's a current breakdown of the complete squad, with the players at the top of each position being the first choice:

                         Reina
                        Dudek
                        Carson

Finnan         Carragher      Hyypia          Riise
Kromkamp     Agger          Paletta         Aurelio
(Carragher)   (Traore)       (Traore)       Warnock
                                                        Traore

Pennant        Gerrard        Alonso          Gonzalez
Garcia          Zenden        Sissoko          Kewell
(Gerrard)      Diao             Diao              (Riise)
(Pongolle)                                          (Warnock)

                  Crouch          Bellamy
                  Fowler          Pongolle
                 (Garcia)         (Kewell)

I reckon our squad is way too big.

Obviously to pick a starting eleven with a squad like ours is really difficult, it all depends on who we are playing, but for arguments sake if it was just pick your best team, mine would be...........

                        Reina

Finnan        Carragher  Hyypia       Riise

Gerrard        Alonso    Sissoko      Gonzalez

                  Bellamy   Crouch

Subs : Dudek Palletta Pennant Garcia Fowler

Admittedly i havent seen enough of Gonzalez but with Harry being injured i think that Mark has an oppurtunity to make that position his own.
If we were chasing a goal that team could easily be changed, with the likes of Fowler Pennant and Garcia fantastic options.
It shows how much strengh in depth there is when the likes of Aurellio Agger and Kewell cant even make the bench, Aurellio could be far better than i am aware and is obviously going to provide plenty of competition with Riise for left back, while also both can cover left midfield, as i said early...so many options, Rafa must be eagerly awaiting the start of this season.

Reina

             Finnan        Carragher    Agger       Riise

  Pennant       Gerrard       Sissoko     Alonso     Gonzalez

                                    Bellamy

Subs : Dudek  Palletta  Garcia  Fowler  Crouch

This will be a very tough team. Seriously a well balanced midfield. It worries me that we do not have good cover in central midfield (should never have let DH go but that is a different thread). Other that Diao all other midfielders seem to be flair players rather than holding midfielders. In a crunch I suppose we can play Carra as a holding midfielder and Palletta in his place in defence.

strengh and depth for the first time in years..

i will let rafa pick the squad as he throws surpises in every game, but i won,t be surpised to see kewell play alot as rafa really seems to rate him and based on last year he's justified in my eyes and i was a huge

A real challenge this.  It all depends on injuries, form, who we're playing etc.  Thank feck we finally have some considerable strength in depth! :buttrock  Selection problems are exactly what we want to be having week in, week out at Liverpool.

I suppose, if pressed to play Rafa for a day, I'd go with this for 4-4-2:

                               Reina

Finnan        Carragher         Hyypia           Riise

Gerrard       Alonso             Sissoko          Gonzales

                                     Fowler
                           Bellamy

Subs: Carson, Crouch, Pennant, Garcia, Agger

And, I'd go with this for 4-2-3-1:

                               Reina

Finnan         Carragher         Hyypia         Aurelio

                      Alonso      Sissoko

              Gerrard       Garcia        Kewell

                              Bellamy

Subs: Carson, Fowler, Crouch, Pennant, Agger

The toughest decision for me is dropping Pennant for Gerrard on the right.  Bottom line, though, is that Sissoko has been immense for us and has made himself almost undroppable at CM.  If he continues to do the job he's being doing, other "flair" players will have to resign themselves to cameos from the bench.  Here's hoping that we can groom a bench of supersubs (Garcia, Pennant, Kewell, Crouch, Fowler, Aurelio...) this season who can enter the fray with less than 20 minutes to play and really change a game.

I, for a change, won't include Bellamy in the starting eleven, I haven't seen enough of him.

----------------Reina------------

Finnan     Carra     Hyppia      Fabio Aurelio

---------------Xabi Alonso----------------

Pennant          Gerrard         Gonzalez

--------------Luis Garcia
-----------------Fowler

I really have a good feeling about Bellamy this season, and I hope he doesn't disappoint. Sabre, mate you’re gonna like this guy, I can tell.

EDIT:

(That’s based on nothing but gut feeling btw!)   :p

It was tough between the two of them for me, and if Rafa went with Robbie i'd be just as happy to be honest.
The vision he has shown since he was back at the club has been outstanding and i think Bellamy would love to play alongside Fowler....by the way if he does, robbie will end up with plenty of assists.

What would you do if a centre back got injured?
