Assuming UK and Irish folk are generally from the same stock (as are Germans) I do unfortunately agree that mainland European women are better looking. Italian women and Spanish women are really hot!!

A survey showed that Irish women drink 8 times as much alcohol as Italian women, hence the worse shape. Obvioulsy there are stunners here and mingers there but I am speaking "in general". Beer guts on women is such a turn off especially when they, for some reason, wear belly tops.

Anyway, the euro has no influence on economic growth, Ireland's economy has been growing at over 5% for a decade, have low unemployment and a survey last week showed us to be the second wealthiest people in the world (damn Japanese

) while in France there is about 10% unemployment.

Being in the EU has nothing to do with your pub hours, beer drinking etc, if anything mainland Europe is less anti-smoking than Britain. They do drink less though.

Thats a bit cliched as regards women in Europe Niall , I've seen some right mingers in France ,Spain and Italy . Ireland still has a Miss World and those tasty trollops from the Corrs .

Take your point on smoking , Spain and Greece are fantastic havens for tobacco addicts . You can smoke just about anywhere and nobody (except maybe some uptight nothern europeans or americans ) gives a sh'it .

i really want to emigrate but because i was dragged up through britain's sh*te state school system i can't speak any foreign languages, now i'm old it's gonna take forever to get to learn french/spanish/italian. my line of work means i'd have to be completely fluent and i don't fancy taking a pay cut by starting another career

I have to agree with you Woolly. I for one would love to live somewhere other than Belfast. I was taught in Secondery school and was taught French for the 1st 3 years there. I wanted to continue with it but was told that I could'nt because it clashed with my typing classes!!!! Now I can only remember a few words. As for the typing classes, I have never used them in a job.....
Now, at 36 (which I dont think is old, by the way) I go to night classes to learn Spanish. I have been going for 2 years now and my teacher reckons it will be another few years before I can speak Spanish fluently. But I'm hoping it will pay off in the long run. I can understand most people not wanting to go to night school as they work long hours and want to spend time with their families. But if you really want to live somewhere else and need the language, 2 hours a week is not a lot to give up.
In a few years time I hope to living in Spain (dont know where yet), have a full time job and a better life.

kazza i thought you'd sorted out a move to tenerife? my brother's done spanish night classes for a while and got his gcse and he reckons that's enabled him to get by daily life speaking the lingo when he's there, but nothing too complicated obviously. i'd love to do classes but my life is insanely busy as i work mental hours (not so much long hours, just wierd and wonderful hours) and when i'm not at work all my time is taken up by being a family man and just generally letting off steam cos my work is quite high pressured

which brings me to the point i want to make, it's not so much the EU i like, it's european culture (southern europe to be precise) where there is more to life than what salary you're on, what your house is worth and what car you drive. we've got it all wrong in britain - we BOAST about how many hours a week we work, how f*cked up is that :wwww

in southern europe they stick 2 fingers up to the rule book and put family & friends first which is how it should be. the french have an expression for it, it's called "savoir faire" which loosely translated means they "know how to live" and that doesn't revolve around rampant consumerism, it's about having REAL quality of life not just owning lots of stuff

which brings me to my next point, we're all talking here about being able to move to france/spain/germany or wherever. can you imagine how difficult that would have been before the EU opened up borders in 1992? feckin impossible i reckon, and for changing that, the EU should be applauded

You might thing by now that I'm not to keen on EU but I am. The good aspects of the entering in the Union ar far more important to my country than all the bad things. But I'm tired and I cannot write about them right now

did you know on olympic airlines it's COMPULSORY to smoke? personally i don't smoke (well, once in a while) but i like the idea of a country that lets you smoke anywhere

ps you're a lucky boy, i have a friend from a long long time ago in madrid, she's just been on holiday to san sebastian and LOVED it, and her photos looked amazing :cool:

Good on you kazza for learning another language, they say it's harder as you get older, but I applaud people who do it. All the anglo countries don't pay enough attention to it in schools because English is so dominant these days.

I've been learning German for 3 years and I'm reasonably proficient I guess, still a lot of work to do though. The best way to learn a language is actually live in the country though or even stay their a few weeks. I was in Germany for about 10 days in January of this year and my German imrpoved a lot, because you pick up things you never can in any classroom, and because they speak it so quickly you really have to work hard to understand, After 10 days of hearing 90% German, i felt so much more confident with it.

If you have Spanish friends you can stay with or even get a chance to go on holiday there for a while, try and use your Spanish as much as possible. It's the best way to learn.

times in the past but now we are flying it and speaking English is a huge advantage. We did NOT lose our culture - well no more than any other country in this "American age".

Northern Ireland is settling down too and hopefully they will all learn to get along. I don't think that the Republic of Ireland or Britain has any economic interest in Northern Ireland (I think it is in bad shape and relies on UK government grants/subsidies).

Yeah,

It is kind of funny, in the past both Ireland and Britain were fighting over NI, now I don't think anyone wants it. "its yours" " no, its yours" :laugh:

The EU are trying to interefere in countries tax policy now, which could F*ck up Irelands economy which has done well while socialist Europe stagnates. Thankfully Britain agrees with us on this so we should, hopefully, have a bit more power to fight Brussels off.
