Next season - What's the minimum requirement?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Mon May 24, 2004 9:14 pm

so by the end of the week liverpool football club should have a new man at the helm and a new era will well and truly have begun. a new manager brings new ideas and new personnel.

so what should we expect?

for me, the league should take absolute priority for everyone concerned. that is what we want the most. obviously a good champions league run would also help the confidence. i think if we appointed curbishley he could focus predominantly on the league due to his lack of european experience.

i think all liverpool fans would rather see us win our own league before conquering europe. not like manure who won the champions league despite finishing second in the premiership the previous year.

They wont be hard on the new man
they will probably tell him a top 3 finish
a long run in the fa cup and c.l. will be good enough.

4th place.

A good cup run, good results in certain games.

Thats realistic.

The new manager should get about 10million for a striker and thats all he should recieve.

Next season he should be made to learn about his team and the players before he starts to introduce his system. We have to build on what we have. Not start from scratch.

I don't think any manager will be starting from scratch, with the players that are already at the club.Although I'm pretty sure a few of the scapegoats will be off-loaded during the summer for minimal fees and duly replaced with some new faces.

Managers do things there own way. It doesn't matter what players are there.

Lets face it, who would have thought Fowler would have left after Houllier took charge?

Great managers make brave decisions.

and someone with the courage to break the 'foreign' mould, someone who would dare a line up like this;...
Kirkland, Carragher, Riise,  Finnan (HE'LL COME GOOD), Hypia, Mills, Gerrard, Kewell, Owen, Thompson (Celtic), Barros,  AND F*** OFF MAN-U, Rooney! (SUCH A GOOD SCOUSER SHOULD STAY ON MERSEYSIDE) Throw in the likes of Nolan from Bolton and you've got a team full of battlers mostly Brits with balls like melons, Curbishley is the man!

if Mourinho gets the job, hopefully he'lle bring Deco, Nuno Valente and others with him. Deco and Stevie G in the centre of the park would be fantastic.

edwardo, a team full of battlers is nice, but do you really think we would win the league with that side. Nolan is no better than Murphy and Danny Mills is no better than any of our current defenders.
I agree with you to an extent because a lot of our foreign players lack passion, but Arsenal are full of foreigners and they are without doubt the best side in England, and they usually start with only 2-4 englishmen.

Judging by Rick PArrys comments after houlliers demise..

"will we be challenging for the league next year without a change, the answer is NO!"

That to me suggests we must be a lot closer to arsenal chelsea and the scum next year. my targets would be:

1. 6 points max from top spot. (not 30)
2. Quarters of the champions league minimum.
3. Not lose a home game all season, play attractive football.
4. WIn an Fa cup possibly
5. 3rd place or above.
6. At least 40 points above Everton (not difficult)
7. Show little interest in the Ueafa/ Worthless cup.
8. Cane Man Utd Home and Away.

We need obviously a few decent players to achieve this, and given the right appointment, and the proposed investment and available funds into the club then it could be possible, it just depends who you give the cheque book to.

notice you never mentioned Rooney?
Mills and Nolan are only suggestions from quick memory , there are many more perhaps you could suggest some, Arsenal are unique, Wengers a genius, I don't think we can achieve their level immediately but a team with a mix of skill determination and patriotism that is prepared to fight 110% every game will give them a run for their money, millions of pounds in the transfer market on so called top class players does'nt buy championships (CHELSEA, REAL MADRID) All of Liverpools past great teams included grafters and skill combined. With this combination we will rule again!

rooney wouldn't come here, when asked in an interview, "would you ever consider playing for LFC?", he said "Who?".

Yeh grafters and skill combined is they way, but I think the skill needs to come from overseas, I'm hoping Mourinho gets the job and he brings Deco with him.
:)
Can't think of any grafers right now, but there is better than Mills, Nolan, maybe Roy Keane  :D , nah only joking.
