Owen will be fine and No ones sure what rooney has if its a meatatarcel or what ever when we get 100 % confirmation on what injury he has and how long it will take to heal then ill name my 4. Rooney will be massive in the world cup and i dont want to think about a world cup with out him

You do know that Man Utd rushed his tests forward last night and confirmed he has a broken metatasel (In his big toe) and that the estimated time for recovery is six weeks. This could mean he misses one or two of the group games.

yeah but if u remember he fractured the fifth metatarsal on his right foot in the Euro 2004 quarter-final defeat to Portugal. He was not able to play again for 10 weeks. and he was meant to be back after 6-7 weeks

We all know Owen, Rooney and Crouch takes up 3 spots of of 5. So there are 2 spots left. Consider this situation:

2: Bent gets injured and/or

If there was one spot left and Fowler has to compete for it with the above 6 strikers, do you think he would get it? I personally think that Sven would opt for Shearer, who would probably reject the call. Then he would go for Nolan, then Vasell.

But if it were down to me I would pick Fowler ahead of Nolan (no big match experience),Vasell (not an out and out poacher), Sutton (can't score in 10 league games until last weekend), Heskey (no need for elaboration), Andy Cole (injured for quite some time, won't be match fit for WC) and deliberate between Shearer and Fowler with the former having an advantage. But he might just reject the call.

Who do you guys think?

* I hope I didn't leave out any deserving mentions on the strikers list.

You must be kidding, mate! Why not say, every single english striker gets injured and left Fowler? Pretty senseless post~

dean ashton is 13/8 to make the squad. bent and crouch are massive favourites, then defoe is like 1/7 and rooney and owen both 1/2.

fowler is about 7/1 for what its worth

wot is ur problem with Robbie Fowler! how do u no the state of his fitness? are u a physio at Liverpool fc? jus coz rafa dont pick him every game dosnt mean he isnt fit! Rafa reguarly rotates all our strikers and substitutes them before the 90 mins is up.

Oh and by the i doubt Fowler will go to the world cup, im pretty sure that he said in his book he wont play for England again.

I think Beattie will go now. I don't subscribe to the idea that a half fit Rooney is better than no-Rooney.

I think Sven will play 4-5-1, Carrick holding, Gerrard and Lampard playing behind the striker.

Terry is nursing a bruised ankle, and the papers are saying that 'Sven will be worried as Sol Campbell is only just returning'. What are they on about, throw Carra in. Nobody will notice, Terry and Carra are both good CB's, Campbell is jinxed and :censored:

Sven's come out and said that he'll take Rooney so long as he can play some part in the tournament.

I'm still very sceptical about his chances of recovering in time though. He took an absolute age to recover from his broken foot after Euro 2004.

It's going to be a very interesting couple of weeks. Sven has to name his preliminary squad next weekend, and then submit his finalised squad a week later.

Wont Sven pick five strikers ?

If he only picks four strikers which I can't see him doing it would be a huge gamble in bringing two unfit strikers in Owen and Rooney. Really he could only pick one out of them, and if it were me I'd pick Owen for his scoring ability.

Sven could also drop a midfielder from the squad if he wanted, Hargreeves or someone and put Rooney in there, freeing up the striker situation. Yes I would bring Fowler along with Crouch, Owen and Defoe.

That's "grandeur", mate.

Like I say, what previously looked carved in stone is suddenly a bit up in the air.

Owen's scan has come back okay, but where there's pain there's problems, and we'll all be watching him with interest in the next couple of weeks.

As for the timetable everyone's quoting for Rooney's rehabilitation... it's based on what medical textbooks state, which may or may not bear relation to what transpires. Let's not forget he was out for twice the amount of time he was expected to following Euro 2004.

People are saying "Rooney will be fit for England's third group game at the World Cup", and at this stage that's absolute guesswork. If Rooney's recuperation takes the same shape as Owen's from a similar injury, he may find himself struggling to make Man U's third league game of next season, let alone a football match taking place next month.

If (and note I am saying "if" and not "when") one of Owen and Rooney don't go to the World Cup, someone's going to get an unexpected call-up. All I'm saying is that Fowler has as good a case as anyone outside the strikers that have been picked for England over the last 12 months.
