I don't think it's as absurd as some people think.

Definitely going to World Cup:

Rooney
Crouch
Owen (if fit)

I think - particularly because of the doubts over Owen's fitness - Sven's going to take 5 strikers. Beyond those three, you have:

Defoe
Bent

These are the two obvious names, basically because they have been featuring in recent England squads. Bent wasn't massively convincing in his only outing, however, and Defoe's form has slumped dramatically since early season. Beyond these two, you have:

Ashton
Johnson
Vassell

Johnson, I think, is out of contention. Vassell has been sporadically good this season, but his strike rate is still poor. Ashton could be the wild card, and potentially he could keep Defoe or Bent out of the squad if he catches the eye in the next few weeks.

HOWEVER...there remains the question mark over Owen's injury. Let's not forget that he only kicked a ball for the first time last week since the injury.

So, if there's a further setback, we could be looking at a five-strong strike force of:

Rooney
Crouch
Defoe
Bent
Ashton

This all assumes that Sven is on the same wavelength as the UK press, however. In this scenario, beyond Ashton the obvious, recently tried candidates are:

Johnson
Vassell

Beyond these two, it's:

Beattie
Heskey
Sutton

I'd have Fowler ahead of all three of the latter, and on current form I'd definitely have him ahead of Johnson and Vassell as well.

So potentially, if Owen's injury doesn't clear up, Fowler could be the fifth striker that Sven takes. I certainly don't have him as far away from the squad as many think.

Fowler will not be a part of England's World Cup Squad.

He will be too busy getting even fitter for us next season!!!  :buttrock  :buttrock  :buttrock  :buttrock  :buttrock

Yes/No ?

Without that confirmation everything else is bullsh*t . Which in fairness is on a par with most of your posts .

Sigh. If u don't like the post, u can keep probably do others a favor by not replying and bumping it up, no?

I can actually see some sort of decent discussion going on despite your efforts to rubbish the post. I know you have your issues with me because I don't like the way you treat newcomers with hostility. Members like you really make the forum a better and friendlier place. Too much moral police out there waiting to pounce on any new posts given the slightest chance.

You have a point in saying that it is not confirmed that Sven will be taking 5 strikers. Even though I am quite sure of that and the papers have always said its going to be so, it still isn't a confirmed fact, period. It's just an educated assumption and you are right to question the validity of such assumptions.

But since you are so nit-picky, be sure to apply the same regulations to yourself. Do not try to assume anything in the forum next time, cos we'll be watching you, too.

I suppose if every french left back gets injured then Djimi will go, you could say this about anyone who isnt going the world cup.

I just dont see the point in this what so ever.

I'm just saying that if 2 of the 3 strikers well ahead of Fowler in the pecking order becomes unavailable for the WC, he might just get a look in for the squad. Shouldn't be that hard to understand.

And your point about Djimi is quite enlightening.  :D

I really don't see why this thread is getting so much stick when I look at some of the other threads.  There are a dozen worse threads I can spot very easily.  I just see a Liverpool fan being optimistic about a Liverpool legend due to his recent prolific form.

Of course, I don't think Robbie will be going to Germany, but if you don't like a thread, just ignore it...unless GunGod is Hustler in disguise, then there's no hold barred...

I doubt Fowler will want to play for England, there's been a lot of bad blood between Fowler & past England Managers & even Sven to a degree.

I don’t think its :censored: thread.
I think it’s the people that join a thread just to slag it off are :censored:.
If you got nothing to say on the matter just shut the flock up and let others have a chat about it.

I don’t think he has a chance of a place he had problems getting games before coming back to us.
he will need the time in the close season to get as fit as poss so he can bang the goals in the back of the net for us next season anyway even if he did have a chance he has been there done that and don’t need the added pressure now .
