We will find out before the weekend about the work permit, but he will be going on loan for the rest of the season maybe to Espanyol?

I've read that Lotina, the Espanyol coach was concerned about his physical form, due to his injury.

And now... the latest rumour. Is of a local press of San Sebastian . Footie press. They say we have advanced contacts with Liverpool, and that if Rafa doesn't get the permit before 31 January, he'd like him to come here. The article says, that Alonso encouraged to come here on loan.

I don't give a f*ck for this rumour, they are not always reliable, but just in case it happens, you are warned. Me? thumbs up, we need someone on the left, and we (Liverpool) need him pick again competitive form, and he'd get minutes here.

Sounds good to me sabre, loan him to RS help them till the end of the season.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Just for Erica, Liverpoleva , andy G and other Spanish speakers (Pablinho, no RM info here, get lost)

El mundo deportivo is a press I also criticise, they're sensationalist, and they accuracy rate is of 50% so... I don't know, I don't want hopes up for my team

What you have to do, Sabre, is beating your neighbours tomorrow. It is a very important game for both teams, and the loser could have serious problems, especially if the loser team is from Bilbao.
About Mark González, I must admit that I have never seen him play, then I have no idea if he is good or not.
So, good luck for tomorrow, because I think that if you win you will have an easier second round in the League. Greetings.

Why does it have to take this length of time for a yes or no decision!?! If the criteria he failed on in the Summer has been fulfilled, surely the soppy b*stards at the Dept. of Employment and Pensions MUST say yes?

News News News

According to a reliable press source, (in fact they have direct contact with the RS board) Real Sociedad IS interested on Mark Gonzalez on Loan.

Apparently Today is gonna be the day (1) that the British authorities are going to deny the work permit due to this reasons: Chile is 74th right now, and you must play 80% of games of your national squad to be considered, and that's not the case (prolly due to injuries).

Apparently too the British authorities do make some exception in the case of "Young talented proffesionals" but so far, they've used this exceptions for other professions like talented singers.

So, what's sure? we're going to know about the work permit SOON, today prolly. And Real Sociedad is interested, AND Espanyol is still interested. According to this source, if he eventually gets the permit, Rafa wouldn't be interested on the loan at all.

DoE says NO. Gonzalez on his way to Sociedad. Sad for Liverpool.

Not really Banana. Put it this way. Kewell is on form, so is Riise. How many minutes would he get right now? I don't think it's that bad he picks rythm of competition in the PRIMERA (unlike Albacete), until all this annoying matter is sorted out.

Yes hes definatley on his way back to La Liga.

LIVERPOOL today faced defeat in their efforts to secure a work permit for winger Mark Gonzalez and have agreed to loan him to Real Sociedad.

Gonzalez is set to return to La Liga until the end of the season, which would end hopes of an imminent start to his Anfield career.

The Reds are waiting for a decision from the Department of Employment and Education, having made a fresh attempt for Gonzalez to play for Liverpool this month.

Gonzalez's application was rejected last summer on the grounds Chile aren't ranked in the world's top 70.

Since then, the South Americans have moved up the rankings, but the new bid was made on the basis of the 21-year-old Chilean international being a professional of 'outstanding young talent'.

In the absence of any response before the end of this month, Rafa Benitez will act now to ensure the midfielder isn't left in limbo.

A six-month loan has been agreed with Sociedad which is now awaiting the green light.

Liverpool hope Gonzalez will have secured European citizen-ship by May which will remove the necessity of a work permit when he officially joins his new club.

Gonzalez spent most of last week on Merseyside undergoing medical and fitness tests at Melwood, and there is huge disappointment he's facing a lengthy delay.

Benitez believes the Chilean is good enough to have an instant impact on the Premiership and would have thrust him into the senior squad within a few weeks.

He is astonished by the ignorance shown by the panel of 'experts' who decided Gonzalez isn't worthy of a work permit.

While Gonzalez comes to terms with a frustrating delay in his transfer to Anfield, midfielder Bolo Zenden has vowed to defy suggestions his season his over.

Thats a shame. He would have been a great acquisition to the squad, even up front. However, with Kewell playing the way he is right now, and Gonzo slowly getting back into match fitness, I think Rafa is right to loan him out till the end of the season. Should prove a vital signing for next campaign!

Drummerphil: AFAICT no, no Sven moving to Mandril rumours... they're shuffling names and Capello is the most heard one. I'll keep you posted.

If Gonzalez eventually comes to RS, I'll open a thread in which I'll make a thorough report as a player for you. I'll be your eyes!!!

At the end of the season, I'll give my veredict, able for Liverpool or not. In 10 games, I should be able to say that. If I'm wrong, I hereby give permit to Stu and A.B. to bash me. Wait, they do not need permission to do that
