:O

Is this some sort of english irony that I don't get?

It's a common practice at least in Spain, to put the second goalie on cup games against lower division teams. Believe it or not it's quite important to make feel the second goalie an active part of the first squad.

And this games are not easy for Carson for many reasons. There are many changes in the team (and because of that more disadjustments) and that means that you are not defensively compact. In this games there is always lots of work, they are lower division footballers, they are not idiots, they do know playing the long ball, they do it every week. So, there's work for the keeper and he has not the routine of games, so this bad games can happen. I'm pretty sure that if Rafa has put him to play it's because he trains well. Of course we'll keep Reina, but leave alone Carson (not that you have said anything bad about him but I just hate it when I read  people (1) jumping into conclussions because ONE game)

Reina will be the first choice keeper as always, and having a back up is important. Carson is still young and has plenty of time to improve. We also signed another keeper,  18 year old from MK Dons[spelling?]

He did alright in the Champions League knock out stages for us while Dudek was injured.
