At present the whole set-up at Anfield is so far off track that there will be no easy short term solutions.
The problems go all the way back to the final days of Paisley when there had been no preparation for his leaving. Fagin was a stop-gap as he said himself . Then this myth of promotion from within was brought out as being "The Liverpool Way". It never was and it has never worked. The only successes after Shanks/Paisley were as a result of the machine still rolling along but no one was putting any effort in to keep it rolling.
The biggest joke now is that stupid sign in the players tunnel "This is Anfield"- SO BLOODY WHAT ? The sign meant something when it was put up after successive teams had made the ground a fortress. The sign should be thrown out along with the present board and management because it is no one elses fault why we are becoming the joke of the Prem.
A football club is just another business and if LFC was a car factory,a corner shop or a hot dog stand it would be bust in no time. No profit-No job. We are still five years away from being a top team and no 1 man is going to solve the massive problems there. Steve Morgan is a must for the boardroom, he's earned his wealth by hard work, unlike Moores, and he understands how to run a successful business.
Houllier is nothing more than a school teacher promoted beyond his ability. He's way out of his depth and doesn't realise he's drowning. There are few possibilities for his replacement around but out of all of them then O'Neil seems the best, but would he come? The idea of Thompson taking over is ridiculous as with ANYONE associated with the present set-up. It is them who are to blame for the mess we are in. Not the players.
Liverpool must rebuild with a hub of players from The Academy. Lads who are hungry for success, who hurt when they get beat. The odd overseas player could be added to the team but the main body must be homegrown. All the great sides from Ajax to The Old LFC to the Milans were based on homegrowns with exceptional buy-ins. It goes pair-shaped when you forget where your roots lie and try to do too much with foreigners who rarely know the traditions.
