Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I suppose it can get annoying for them every time they go out people wanting photos and autographs but it's great to hear that some of the players are humble enough to recognise and appreciate the fans.

I remember a few years ago i was in Williamson Sq. in liverpool when i noticed 3 guys coming out of the LFC shop, when i looked a bit closer i realised that the guy in the middle was Rigo Song and i swear he saw me looking at him and actually held out his hand to shake mine as our paths crossed, he was a really friendly guy and seemed only too happy to say hello.

It's great when you have an experience like this 'cos you really get the feeling that not all professional footballers are over paid premadonna's.

I was at 3 am in the "tturrut" bar of the old part of my city.

A friend of mine Maria, says, look that guy has the look of Xabi ALonso!.

I ranted "can't be, he was scoring a goal for Liverpool at 4pm"

But I turned back, and bloody hell, Xabi ALonso was there.

After  minutes thinking I managed to approach. My friend knew one of his friends and apparently they were celebrating an anual dinner of schoolmates . I approached Xabi. I told him I'm a Liverpool fan, good goal. He said thank you.

I told him "I don't want to bother you, but you must tell me , what is it like to be in the same dressroom of Carra and Gerrard".

He changed his "yet another fan is talking to me and I'm polite" voice , looked somewhere ese finding the words, and he eventually said "Carra is the f*cking owner (puto amo)". Of course, this in Spanish means chief, someone you respect a lot, someone who's in charge.

Answering to this, I told him "well, I'd say you are pretty appreciated in Anfield"

He answered diplomatically "I can't complain" but his face had a smile from one ear to another like saying "I know and I'm happy".

I then finished "well, I won't bother you any more". He said "aupa (cheers) nice to meet you. Have you been in ANfield?"

I answered (full of shame) "no".

He stated "you should, that's another whole different thing". and then I said I will and bye.

I'm 29, a calm computer scientist, but while talking to him I felt like a bloody child, I don't care right now my team has lost. Huzzah!

Is Puto Amo the right spelling?

Is Puto Amo the right spelling

Yes, definitely. That's something you won't find in any text or proper Spanish book, but it's common spoken Spanish (they wouldn't use that in America though). Puta (fem) means whore, but puto (masc) is used like you use :censored:*ng or bloody. Mourinho es un puto idiota, is the most normal thing you could hear in a pub when talking about Chelski coach, for instance

Nice story, and does anyone remember when Alonso was screaming at Carra for making a poor pass against Chelsea in CL? Fecking hilarious :D

Great story Sabre. You get the impression from his interviews that Xabi is a normal guy and not the 'dream team' type.

Great story Sabre,
I have also met Alonso but didnt speak to him, just had photo taken with him and Luis Garcia when they first signed.
I was at my mates wedding reception and it was in the Raddison hotel in town, they had only just signed and were staying there.
They had photos taken with loads of people and seemed really friendly and happy to be in Liverpool.
