LONDON, March 13 (Reuters) - Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has been ruled out of action for at least six weeks after breaking his wrist in training, the premier league club said on Saturday.

The injury is another setback for the 22-year-old who had only recently returned to the first team after breaking his finger against Bolton Wanderers in late December.

"Unfortunately Chris was injured in training today before the team left for (Sunday's match at) Southampton and x-rays later revealed he had broken his left wrist, which is now in a cast," said a Liverpool spokesman.

"After consultation with the surgeon he was informed that the break was a clean one and it does not require surgery. It is expected to be at least six weeks before he is back in action." Kirkland also missed the last three months of last season after damaging knee ligaments in an FA Cup tie and did not play again until October.

His latest injury is also an untimely blow to his hopes of making the England squad for Euro 2004 in June. Kirkland was selected in Sven-Goran Eriksson's squad for the February friendly against Portugal.
