From where I came from, I could still remember that the first time I got to know about the (old) English first division was through the local newspapers back in 1974 when, I was only 10 years old. Without fail, the sports column would feature the league standing of all the teams and their results. During those days we do not have the privilege of live coverage of games, let alone watching the players in real person. We only had the chance of having a glimpse of the team playing when it was aired many months later. And to keep up with the latest news, I had to buy the magazine named 'Shoot' (not sure if it's still in the market). Even so the magazines were 3 months late as it had to shipped over to this part of the world. And I could still remember I had to safe my pocket money just to make sure that I have enough money for every issue. And over the months I began to read more of the teams in the old 1st division and I can't help admiring the LFC players and their 'hardworking' and never say die' attitude and finally concluded that LFC is the team that I wanted to support and it has been 29 years since then.
Again, I could still remember in the 70 and 80s, without fail every saturday evening I would turn on my radio and switch to the short wave to listen to the latest, halftime and final scores for LFC matches and I had to stand at the balcony and holding on to my radio (to get bettere reception) from 9.30PM till midnight just to get the final score. Mom would ask me the reason for standing at the balcony for long hours and I believe she's still not convinced of me doing so and she'll most probably thought of me admiring some girls staying in the next block!
The first taste of live action was something of an anti-climax where it was really exciting watching LFC played live for the first time on TV in the 1977 FA Cup final but sadly we lost.
My support for the tem coincide with rise of LFC in the mid - 70s and 80's and the rest is history.
I don't regret every moment of it and thinking back it was really fond and special memories for me small boy, teenager and a working adult which I'll treasure for the rest of my life. My eldest son (9 years ld) asked me what makes me support LFC and I told him the same. I'm trying very hard to convince my two sons to support LFC and l'll not give up until I achived that.
Enough said. I hope all you LFC supporters out there irrespective of your age, gender, colour and nationality to share your experience on this board.
