FROM Liverpoolfc.tv  --- Liverpool are on the verge of signing goalkeeper Scott Carson after agreeing a fee with Leeds United.
The Reds have beaten off competition from Chelsea for the services of the highly rated 19 year old.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has been in the market for a goalkeeper since Chris Kirkland was ruled out for three months, and Carson's expected arrival will increase the competition for the number one spot at Anfield.

Liverpool Head of Press Ian Cotton said: "We have agreed terms with Leeds for Scott Carson. He will come to Liverpool today for a medical and to discuss personal terms."

Leeds spokesman Bryan Morris said: "We wish Scott the very best at his new club. He has proven himself to be a top class keeper during his time at Leeds United and we are sure he will continue to impress at Anfield.

"His steady nerve in pressure situations and his professionalism on and off the pitch will ensure that he has a bright future ahead of him.

Hopefully he is as good as they say!!!

this is what bbcsport are saying, might shed some more happy light

Liverpool have beaten Chelsea to the signature of Leeds goalkeeper Scott Carson, who is expected to seal his move to Anfield this week.
Carson must pass a medical but is set to sign a four-and-a-half year deal.

The Reds upped their offer for the 19-year-old to £750,000, with add-ons taking the sum up to the £1m mark.

England Under-21 international Carson is out of contract at the end of this season and had already rejected a new deal at Elland Road.

Leeds spokesman Bryan Morris said: "We wish Scott the very best at his new club.

"He has proven himself to be a top-class keeper during his time at Leeds United and we are sure he will continue to impress at Anfield.

"His steady nerve in pressure situations and his professionalism on and off the pitch will ensure he has a bright future ahead of him."

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez had suggested Carson would find an easier route into the first-team at Anfield, with Blues keeper Petr Cech in such fine form for the current Premiership leaders.

"Coming here would be a good chance for him because he can play more games," he told the club's official website on Wednesday.

"Chelsea have a very good young goalkeeper. If I had to make that decision, I would go to Liverpool."

Liverpool are short of cover for goalkeepers, with Chris Kirkland out for several weeks with a back injury.

Youngster Paul Harrison is the only cover for Jerzy Dudek

Just heard it on the news, good news, but we still need to ship out a few keepers, we will now have 4 on the brink of the first team, of which the two youngest are the only I would keep....

Agreed, but who would have them?  Maybe we could put them out on loan.  I hear McDonalds are always looking for people :D  :D  :D

In all seriousness, I would get rid of them, but still look for a experienced keeper, who has played at CL level.

now that we have a new keeper i think it is time to ship out Dudek, i dont see any signs of him getting out of his slump any time soon, and i reckon we could get a decent price for him if we sell. Many would rather sell kirlkland but personally i think he deserves one last chance, as he deffo has the required ability he just needs to stay fit.

Kirkland is by far the better keeper, but he has a dodgy back, and is always going to be injuy prone.  Not a position to be in if we want to be NO.1.
