Lets be realistic here - Is the manure defeat really a surprise?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

i have made this post without looking at what other people have had to say about the game today because i can already imagine what is being said. sell dudek the polish ***** it's all his fault blah blah blah. well let me tell you something. the goalkeeping for the goal was poor in that you should never be beaten at your near post, but we were poor in general.

as much as i hate manure, WE WERE BEATEN BY A BETTER TEAM.

this was especially the case in the first half. they ran the midfield, mainly due to the fact that they had an extra man with keane, scholes and fletcher in there. we stood off them too much and allowed them to dictate the game. so much so, that stevie g couldn't influence the game at all in an attacking sense. all the good work he did was tackling back ect, and the game just showed how roy keane's experience was vital in how he applied himself. add this to the fact that garcia gave the ball away umpteen times as normal, and even hamann had a shocker, and we were always going to struggle.

the second half was just a complete battle. i lost count of the number of bookings by the end. brown deserved to go but the way keane, scholes, ronaldo and rooney constantly were in the face of the ref giving him verbals was a disgrace. as great a side as they are, this is the reason why i hate them. the way they conduct themselves both on and off the pitch.

in conclusion, it just gives us another reality check as to where we are. yes we are heading in the right direction but we are still short when it comes to the really big games. put the arsenal game aside and we have played manure twice and chelsea twice. in those games we haven't scored (man u away was an own goal). that, my friends is the difference.

sometimes, you just have to admit thart we were poor. ok, they only had one shot on target but we only had two as the home team.

let me just reiterrate again. IT IS NOT DUDEK'S FAULT for the defeat today.

All fair points St Mick. FWIW I said much the same on another thread. The one place I'd take issue is that I do think we should go and buy a new goalkeeper. Like tomorrow if possible.

We need a stable keeper, despite that we played poor, we could had walked out with a point. Sometimes you play poor but still get something out of the game, ask Chelsea.

it's not fair to say Dudek didn't make mistake. Let's be fair and honest, he DID make mistake. But yes, we weren't good enough, and they were the better side today. You can't evaluate the match appropriately if you deny this obvious fact: Dudek DID make mistake. But it was not ONLY him causing our defeat.

i beg to differ on Dudek point!
Dudek chose to catch a thunderous shot which was so close to him instead of pushing away.Fair enuf...it was his choice, but too bad he suck at near post or whatever. And that goal put the whole team on immense pressure which affect the team'style. The team got to push more and play more direct football instead of controlling the ball and that also affect the final ball.
As for Garcia, he simply cant play wide. no proper crosses or runs at defenders. and was guity of being selfish at times
Two weak links in today Liv!

IT IS DUDEK'S FAULT WE LOST TODAY! An amateur error really. But I agree he is not the only one having a bad game...

To be honest, I truly expect us to beat those scumbags today. 1) we played well at home 2) we played both Chelsea and Arsenal off the park these past weeks 3) we were lifted by the signing of Morientes 4) we wanted to finished 3rd in the league 5) they were witout Ferdinand and Giggs today.

What I didn't expect was for our midfield to be overran so easily and a schoolboy error (again!) by Dudek (I suggest to bring our keepers to the whorehouse so they know what going down fast means!)

It was his choice that cost the game. It was just like 2 years ago when he chose to push the ball instead of catching it.

no width.....thats why we lost. No finnan 1st of all. And garcia (hate to say), sucks at right wing.

Yes dudek gifted them a goal, but we should have beaten the scums too. They had quite a few players missing too.

This defeat reminds me the match against bolton. Then we put alonso, & garcia straight into the team (and the team was unbalanced as it was their 1st match). I guess the same thing also happened today with morientas & pelle...

Have to give them more time to gel.

Nunez looked good when he came on, he is a better bet than garcia at the right wing. Garcia should now only be used as a striker.

Igor actually contributed more than Didi in ten mintues

Gerrard as good as he is, seems to waste a lot of freekicks.

The ref was somewhat good today.......can't really blame him for this defeat.

To finish off. it hurts like hell to lose to the scums. There goes my weekend.

-Biscan needs to play more. Yes he has been poor in these few years but under Rafa he's a different player. Give Hamann time to rest and let Biscan show that he actually is an ok footballer.
-Garcia is not a winger, he's not a midfielder. He simply should not be played in the midfield, Nunez should had started instead as he would had delievered more crosses and made something happened on the flank.
-Obiviously Pelle and Moro will need some time to settle in.

We face Southampton next week and that's a must win, we need to build on something and we could start next week.

Do you know what a defender does? Defends. He did his job.

yes smartarse, but ill think you find his general passing was very poor today, and when taking free-kicks they just sailed into roy carrolls arms

he is very slow
