I am well aware of Johnsons  abilities as well as his shortcomings  I am merely  stating that he has the capabilities to be prolific in a decent team and a more than capable addition to the current squad and apart from Defoe he is the most inform striker in the premiership

why Johnson's name is not linked to more high profile teams baffles me maybe he's not fashionable enough, but he certainly goes about his game efficiently and with the minimum of fuss a real grafter who definitely knows were the net is

funny how some people dont like remembering this about Baros when comparing him with others.

anyway this isnt about him.
on anelka: i'm not absolutely screaming the house down for us to buy him, so dont hink we should break the bank, but think he certainly would be valuable and would be a good "career" player at Liverpool. meaning i'd be happy with it if he was here for years as he does have what it takes at the end of the day. i actually dont think he's as good as was at Arsenal though.
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

I too want the best for Liverpool thats why i see the need for a prolific striker with pace, all season hes worked tirelessly alone up front for Palace and he has religiously produced goals out of nothing ,he would be a useful sub to introduce when the game was in its closing stages .

If Johnson can continue his form over an extended period of time, say 3 years. Then maybe.

Anelka has scored bags of goals year in year out. Morientes has won throphies every year and scored for fun. Pellegrino has won championship medals and been solid for 10 years. It is a new wind blowing. We are no longer signing losers from relegation sides. We are buying from Real, Barca and Valencia. Players with a winning mentality. That is what has been sadly lacking around anfield. It is an important quality and next year with some fine tuning and some new faces we will fight for the championship throphy + CL throphy.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Anelka. It looks like the lad may have burnt more bridges at City, I figure we haven't got the money to buy him - no-one else in the EPL seems interested. I can't see him swapping England for the Turkish league so i guess going back to France is just about the only option left to him.
A swap deal wouldn't be a bad idea if the boss wants him but i can't see City accpeting any of our rejects and would perhaps be more likely to ask for some of the younger lads like Pongo, Warnock or Le Tellec.
I don't believe we are looking for another striker but i did read on teletext that we are still being linked with AJ in one of the papers this morning.

stmichael wrote:His attitude is terrible too. Players like Collymore had bags of potential but the wrong attitude and amounted to nothing.

Anelka wasn't match fit when he arrived at Liverpool in late 2001, having been frozen out at PSG. When here he didn't start many games consecutively, as Houllier used him as third choice, behind Heskey. We saw in the past, with Baros (and indeed Fowler in later years), how being in for one game, out for two or three, affects a striker's confidence and rhythm. Houllier must have had his reasons for ditching Anelka, as he'd said (circa 1999) that Anelka would win the European Footballer of the Year at some stage. It is a fact that the French national academy rated him more highly than Henry when both were teenagers.

He gets a bad press, but not too many managers or teammates have a bad word to say about him; he made mistakes as a youngster, but compared to El Hadji Diouf appears to be a saint. He's at a great age (still only 25), fit as a fiddle (rarely injured), with bags of experience (at four great clubs, and Manchester City) and still has eight or nine years left; if City have to sell on the cheap, he'd be an investment if only in sell-on terms.[/quote]
Sure i have read this somewhere before Mick :D

If there is anyway we can get him (within reason) we should do it .
As far as the CL is concerned , this season we are still short of firepower up front .If we can sign Anelka I'm sure we can progress even further in this seasons CL comp.
:)
Having played for us previously he should slot straight into the side with no problem.

But then where would baros fit in?  and cisse when he comes bak from injury?   If Rafa cant find a place for Cisse then that will make Cisse by far Liverpool's highest profile (and most expensive) flop.

In a word... ****** em.

The only players who are "untouchable" at this club should be Carragher and Gerrard. If theres better than the rest, they should be replaced. Its as simple as that.

If you want to be the best, there isn't much room for sentiment and the room there is should be taken up by the talented local lads.

And to RED BEERGOGGLES... i find that statement truely shocking. Johnson over Anelka?

I'm sorry but Anelka is one of the best in the world. Johnson isn't even in the top 20 in the country.
