Everyone knows it's not the pinnacle of achievement but it can be a springboard to grater glories.

I'm disapointed that fans seem intent on demeaning one of only half a dozen honours available each season ???

.. and voice of reason speaks here too  :D

.. a cup is a cup.. ask the likes of Newcastle.. starving for success.. adds to our tally of silverware.. which shud make all true reds .. proud

Carling Cup is a substandard cup, but a cup is a cup and I would like to see us win it even if it is known as the "Mickey Mouse" cup

When I was standing arms outstretched in thre Milennium stadium surveying a  sea of flags, banners, scarfs and the incredible noise that 35,000 Liverpool make when they really want to , the LAST thing on my mind was "ohhh isn't this a sub standard trophy "

Fans love finals and the opportunity to celebrate in the intoxicating atmosphere and quite honestly at that moment in time it doesn't matter a feck what the name on the trophy is !!!!!!

deja vu :D

I swear you just said you don't care weather we did or didn't win it?

Make your mind up.

I don't think 7 kewell said "he doesn't care if we don't win it" but that there is more important games to win.
Personally I like to win every game and if anyone has a different opinion, then I won't put a fist in their face or shove a truncheon up their ar.se.

7_kewells original post......."I agree with Gerrard, this cup is nice to win but is NOT a major title.  Probably anoyed me most about Hollour is the fact he thought we should be "proud" of winning this cup....ffs even Man utd, Arsenal wouldn't put out a full team for these matches and i'm pleased we are following the same.  Put the reserves out for the 2nd leg, more important things to go for.."

When it gets to the semi finals  all the teams put their top teams out, and when it IS the final ,again they put their top teams out.............proud to win the cup??  of course we should be proud , we win a cup that at least gives us the UEAFA competition and its a trophy .
there is no better feeling when your team wins something , even the  "Mickey Mouse Cup"..........oh and beating Man utd in the process......

Hollour is spelt Houllier by the way :p

A cup is a cup in my opinion but my main worry is the CL and EPL but I would never consider the Carling Cup a 'Mickey Mouse' cup at all :)

said it before say it again, its only a worthless cup if you dont win it
It may have be devalued in recent times because of the so called  almighty CL but its a cup and its certainly will look better in our trophy cabinet then in  the MANCS or Chelskis
Besides its brings back great memories, 83 Milk Cup  .....a  Whelan  curler :D

try telling that to mourihno and benitez. winning this in their first season in english football will be seen as a great success.

don't think Gerrard will see it like that, neither will I.  I respect everyone's opinion, but i'm of the belief that the league cup is a 'micky mouse' cup.  Yes, put a full team out for the final but nothing else.  I would put the reserves out for the 2nd leg at Watford and save the team for the league.

The thing is with this Forum to many pple cant make a decision themselves so if some pundit on the telly say's oh its worthless now they all jump on the same wagon,i think its down right stupid to say this cup is worthless the only pple who really think its worthless are the ones who havnt won it ,a day at cardiff with the kid's beating the manc's or chelsea how the hell is that worthless admittedly its usually forgotten by the tv pundits at the end of the season because of the run in to the Epl but i allways thought football was about winning thing's whether it be the auto windshield or the league cup right up to the champ league ,think back a few years we was Glad of this so called worthless cup how quick pple forget yeah the future looks bright and rosy but if i had a choice of the league cup or nothing guess what i would pick It may not be the greatest honour but a honour it is,as for playing a weakened side teams do that in any competition if they have injuries or if they think the opposition is easy picking's thats why we have such big squads to releive the pressure of a hectic schedule.
