Gerrard reveals Anelka admiration

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed his admiration for Manchester City's Nicolas Anelka amid speculation over the French striker's future.
Anelka has been linked with a move away from City in January and Gerrard played with him for Liverpool two years ago.

"Nicolas Anelka was great for us when he was here, he was on fire for us at that time," said Gerrard.

"He is another one of the best strikers in the world I have played with - and he proved it at that time."

Is this the price of Gerrard staying, for LFC to sign his personal reccomendations ?
What if LFC sign Anelka and he flop's, Gerrard pi$$es off we are left with the mess ?

How can he be a flop hes a proven striker ???  And better than we have at the moment any aditions will be welcome escpecially on the striker front, imagine him an Cisse upfront when hes back
Any defence in the world would sh#t themselves :D
Hes not cuptied he will score goals, Rafa will sort him out and lets face it hes a wasted talent at city.
Only problem is Barca want him, will he go there or come back to us?
Shouldnt have got rid in the first place :glare:

His attitudes not as bad as Diouffs and he is more talented, makes you wonder why Houlier went for the latter.

I think the noise he is making now while he is with City, is a good example of his lack of respect for club discipline and loyalty.
Any prospective manager is going to be aware of his 'baggage'

Definately has major attitude problems. However at some stage, hopefully before he retires, he will look at himself and realise that money aside his football career has been one of massive underachievement. If a good man-manager like Rafa could harness this frustration and desire then you might well have a player. His ability is absolutely beyond question (well for me anyway) and the only variable is his attitude.
As far as who's coming if anyone in January, its probably worth watching interviews etc about now. Just because the window is closed until Jan it would be extremely foolish to think that any buying or selling club is going to wait until then. All negotiations will be well under way by now and Gerrards hint could well be significant.
I don't know if anyone saw the interview with Rafa on SKY news yesterday when he talked about transfer funds. He had a big smile on his face which suggests to me in my ever-optimistic state thet he knows who we're getting and we'll all be quite impressed.
For my part, if players like Annelka, Ayala and Vicente are in the mix I'd be more than happy to resign my position as chairman of the Robert Earnshaw fanclub. Come to think of it, take-up on membership has been quite slow anyway.   :D

I think Anelka will soon realise that he has to get the finger out and if he does, he could do major things at a club like ours.

I think he likes Liverpool and was very disapointed not to have been signed in 2002.

The attitude is obviously the biggest worry, but sometimes a club in our position has to take a gamble on a player with problems in his past, like Man UTD did with Eric Cantona.

I have a sneaking feeling that Anelka and Liverpool suit each other at the moment, and it could be a transfer that really works.

Also, imagine him and a fully fit Cisse up front: in terms of raw pace alone we would have no match!

I say he is worth the risk but i guess it really depends on what the price is for him.
I certainly shook my head when we took him on loan after the Fowler sale but i thought he done a good enough job to warrant a full contract
In hindsight which is always a wonderful thing after what has happened with Diouf it probably would have been worth signing him
For me one advantage he has to some of the names that are being brandished about from continent is that he a proven scorer in EPL and he would ready to fire from day 1 and not need a settling in period

Signing Anelka, could cost us £150m :

There would definately be a touch of the headless chickens about Cisse and Annelka upfront but pace-wise they would be frightening together I must admit. FWIW I think Baros and Annelka would be the better pairing but thats just me. Bit of a blind spot where Fooliers final piece of legacy is concerned I'm afraid.   :)

I would hope that for once we would buy a forward that can consistently hold a ball up and play people in. I dont think this is Anelkas stong point.
