The only thing i can say is that we can't drop hamann not until we sort out the defence. You saw his performance against arsenal ?

Carra is the player of the season so far, followed by hamann for me.

Riise is a good player. For a defender, he is a midfielder who attacks and can score goals.
Hamann is a very tactically aware player, he links up well between the defence and midfield allowing Gerrard to roam forward.
Am not convinced by Cisse and Baros.

I suppose that as a team, without injuries, we have depth. Unfortunately, we need better strikers, and to be honest, another good defender. We let in far too many goals.

With todays performance, i think baros & gerrard will make a great forward line. Gerrard's future is as an attacking midfielder/hole striker or AM/FLRC for those familar with champ manager  :D

This is not my team, but the manager's team, as far as I can see (and guess):

                           Kirkland

Josemi        Carragher        Hyppia       Riise

               Hamman            Alonso

Gerrard                                          Garcia

              Cisse                 Baros

Its not my team, but what I think is Benitez's preferred line up, based on some of the team selections he has made. Finnan has improved hugely lately (and has gone up in my estimation), but I think Benitez still fancies Josemi at the moment.

Its hard to say what team the boss really prefers, as I don't think we have had the above team starting a match so far (given the injuries).

In fairness, its not a bad team at all.

f*ck Josemi

            Kirkland

Finnan Hyypia Carra Riise

           Hamann

  Gerrard Alonso Kewell

      Mellor Pongolle

This is what we played yesterday and i like it. Withut our 3 injured men this is how we should play it

Nunez can play up front as well (this is a squad without the injured Baros and Cisse

Traore right, Riise left, that's a good team.

Judging from yesterday it would be

                   Kirkland
Josemi  Carragher   Hyypia    Traore

            Hamann     Alonso
                   Gerrard
    Garcia/Nunez      Riise/Kewell
                Baros/Cisse

I think it worked pretty well for us. Not a bad team really.

Our best back four without question is Riise, Hyypia, Carragher and Finnan from left to right. That was shown yesterday. We've looked brilliant whenever that back 4 has played.

I'd say:

Code: Select all
                  Baros
Kewell       Luis Garcia            Nunez
          Alonso        Gerrard
Riise    Hyypia       Carragher   Finnan
               Kirkland

Maybe with Gerrard on the right and Hamann in the middle or Gerrard where Luis Garcia is with Hamann in the middle and Luis Garcia on the right, depending on how good Nunez actually is.

We still need to strengthen though. To me that looks a VERY strong team, but we need a class striker, a left winger with quality but can actually show it, maybe a new centre half and
a quality right winger.

I wouldn't mind a go on the left...

Skill, pace, vision, good touch and like to get stuck in aswell. Got quite a good brain aswell, usually a central player.

Bit sloppy at times in possession though, hence the reason i'm probably more effective out wide, but i'm positive wherever i play i'd be a class act...

At sunday league level of course! :D

I would have to play Risse - that guy has a jackhammer of a left foot and gets up and down well.

Agree with most of that. Baros should be our first choice striker whoever we bring in, he is top draw.
However I liked the control provided by having Alonso and Hamann both in there, allowing Gerrard to cause more problems with his dribbling, forward passing and shooting. Accomodating all 3 of them like that is very appealing.
