Cody Gakpo – Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

We got rid of Darwin because he apparently couldnt finish yet have just spent the past 9 months watching Wirtz and Gakpo miss sitter after sitter, Gakpo's header against United at Anfield when we were 2-1 down was fvcking ridiculous, peversely he actually did well to avoid putting it in the net, not easy to put it wide from where he was.
Finishing was the only thing missing from Darwin's game, he was quick, strong, could beat a man, decent in the air, worked his ar.se off and was right up for a battle and even more up for a punch up. After the season i've just watched i just want players who look ar.sed, players who look like they actually give a sh.1t if we win or lose.
He's a bit older now, he might be a bit more composed in front of goal. He looked a million dollars in pre season just before we sold him.

Can we really get a player back on a free after selling him 12 months ago for 45million   It would be a step backwards or sideways at best imo. In saying that though, if we got 50 or 60 for Gakpo we could get a good DM for that. Nunez could replace Gakpo easy while not necessarily weakening us.

I just hope we are willing to back Iraola in the market with at least 3 or 4 signings. We need at least that but crucially they need to be players that balance out the side like a DM. We won't be witnessing musical players next season as it will be players learn to operate in certain areas. Thats the discipline he sets his teams up with but we need balance.

Darwin the chaotic character, I won't question his effort and chaos on the pitch. What got on our nerves was his finishing.
On a free transfer to bolster the squad, I'd be tempted. However, imagine we're in a crucial match, last few seconds to win the game, Darwin is one on one, gets past the keeper and blazes it to the moon. Lol that is the prob with Darwin, his finishing is off when things are simple but scores crackers sometimes out the blue.

We are not going to get anyone better on a free and atm we need numbers in, we've lost Mo and even when Hugo returns from injury it's going to be a long hard road for the lad to get back to anywhere near where he once was, that same injury turned John Barnes from a footballing God into Joe Allen.
Even Isak, he's got a touch of the Sturridge's about him in the sense he's clearly class but like Danny he's made of glass, he was injury prone at Newcastle, he was even out injured when we bought him, can you see him playing every league game next season....no me neither.
I'm not a fan of Gakpo's but there is an argument to be made for keeping him AND bringing in Darwin, for all his faults Cody does chip in with 10 - 15 goals and we really are light up front. Rio's a hell of a prospect but he's still a kid, he hasnt strung 3 consecutive games together yet are we realistically going to build a title challenge around him.
