Arne Slot

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Problem is we haven't been at the required standard for a nearly a year now. Decline in our play started back end of last season and there's been no real signs that Slot has been able fix the issues.

This is where his lack of experience may be a problem. All was rosy where he did a good job carrying on Klopp's work and we won the league but weve well and truly hit the buffers now and he is starting to look out of his depth when it come to finding solutions to problems. This is where coming from Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivise to now finding solutions to problems at one of the biggest clubs in the world may show up his lack of experience.

I dont get why theres such a big fitness problem with this team. Every player looks knackered at the 60 minute mark of every game. There was a rumour the players were getting 3 days off a week which is insane.. and the players themselves are unhappy. They do seem under trained and unfit. Slot just doesnt seem settled here hence why he goes home every chance he gets. I think hes just waiting to get sacked for the payout at this stage.

He’ll only have 12 months left on his contract by the summer.

Wouldn’t be a huge payout, by premier league standards.

But major changes are needed on and off the field.

I expect us to get another hammering from PSG and after that Slot’s position will become untenable as far as I’m concerned.

The players have already given up on his tactics and he’s already blaming them for his failures.

It’s a case of when and not if he goes.

I genuinely don't think the fitness thing was an issue Saturday mate, when that pen went in it was almost as if someone flicked a switch, we just seemed to give up there and then on the spot, we didn't run out of steam we just downed tools and threw the fvcking towel in, on Saturday the players heads definitely went before their legs did. From that point on City basically took the p1ss out of us, at times their dominance sailed dangerously close to showboating which from our point of view is completely unforgivable, never mind the manager who lets face it doesn't know his ar.se from his elbow, it took him 6 months to realise Mo's finished, never mind him the fvcking players, the fvcking players are representing the wrong fvcking club and the wrong fvcking city if they think its acceptable to just stand there like fvcking dic.k-heads whilst someone is basically taking the p1ss out of us.
The club need to get some shirts made without Liverbirds on and without the number 97 on as well, if the players are going to give up and stand there like soft you-know-what's again they can put them shirts on because whenever they give up they don't fvcking represent us.

The lack of running seems to be a deliberate tactic by Slot which is why the players look like they lack fitness. And they probably do lack fitness because less running has been trained into them since pre-season, so even if we want to up the tempo we really can't because the players haven't been training for high intensity.

But I do agree with Yakka, the players downing tools is simply unacceptable at this club. And I can't believe Szoboszlai had the audacity to taunt the traveling fans for a supposed lack of support, disgraceful behaviour that shouldn't be tolerated. Chiesa was a class act to drag him away from making even more a fool of himself, Fede clearly understands this club and its values more than Dom does. Szoboszlai has been our best player this season but I wouldn't mind if that was the last game he plays for us.

Wrong tactics on the field, wrong fitness programme and zero motivational leadership.
I struggle to think of a single reason to keep him rather than whether he should be fired.
All these failings are clearly of his own making. He has to go.

Liverpool have the same succession problem Man Utd faced when Ferguson left and they let the remaining backroom coaches leave as Moyes brought his own team. Klopp left and we brought in untried coaches who have lost all momentum and failed to improve on Klopp's 9 year evolution of top class football. Why did we surrender our expertise and DNA?  UAE has pulled out of the JV with Dassault to build the next generation fighter jet, Germany looks to pull out of the next gen Euro fighter deal with France for the same reason as UAE because they both wanted technology transfer and the French refuse to hand over their hard earned and costly systems.  Every time a club fires it's manager and the whole coaching staff leaves, the club is left having bought the expertise but losing it overnight. I say we go back to employing the best coaches and bring in a manager. If we'd done that with Slot then we wouldn't be in this position now, the coaches would continue the evolution of Klopp Mk2 and Slot would be managing. Fire Slot and the expertise stays within the club. Reinventing the wheel I know but...

Last night was hugely disappointing and his excuses are embarrassing. He cant motivate the players or coach them to be masters of his philosophy which is poor anyway. Set us up last night like a lower league Cup team looking to cause an upset in the return leg at home. Should we suffer the same fate he will be quick to blame anfield for not creating the perfect atmosphere. I know we pulled off magnificent turn arounds over the years but not with Slot or a team that struggles every other week.

The sooner hes gone the better.

Someone once posted he travelled to holland weekly to see his family which I thought was unacceptable but a quick google search came up with this.

Arne Slot does not travel to see his family on a weekly basis, but rather his wife visits him in Liverpool for a few days every two weeks, while his children visit even less frequently.
Here are the details regarding his family situation:
Family Location: Slot's wife, Mirjam, and their two children (son Joep and daughter Isa) remained in the Netherlands to avoid disrupting their education.
Visits: His wife visits for a "couple of days every two weeks," according to Slot.
Travels Back: Slot sometimes utilizes international breaks or rare days off to return to the Netherlands.
Family Plans: In late 2025, it was noted that his daughter, Isa, was planning to move in with him temporarily for three months to study English in Manchester.
Slot has spoken openly about the difficulty of this arrangement, admitting that "anyone who is married and has a good marriage... would like to see the children and the wife a bit more".

I'd be happy for him to use this as a reason to call it quits now and take a job at Az Alkmaar

I’m not stating he should stay or go, I’m just saying that should not be the reason as it’s not true.

I do feel bad that our two top players in VVD and Salah have been poor this year. Had they played to the level we have seen their entire career with us then we would be right there. He could not find a solution so ultimately it’s his head but those players let him down. Salah doesn’t even run back and defend anymore, just a token jog towards the player with the ball.

The reason players are performing so poorly is because Slot has lost the dressing room.

It’s been the case for some time, in my opinion.

off ya pop Slot lad.

If PSG get knocked out next round and sack Enrique (highly possible) would he be the first target for us? Could we get away with popping an interim manager in place to see us to the end of the season then appoint someone of Enrique's quality?
Alonso is a nice idea but he'll be a gamble, who else is even out there?

Crazy as it sounds, I actually don't think the owners will fire Slot, even if we don't get CL football. Brendan Rodgers was kept after a terrible season, and Slot isn't as bad as Rodgers tbf, he even has a prem title behind him. Last time when they sacked Brendan we got lucky that Klopp was available in the middle of the season, this time if we let every decent manager be hired by someone else during the summer we'll be signing our own Liam Rossenior.
