Realistic signings

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

As far as strikers are concerned who do you think we will most likely sign this January?

The most likely striker I think will be Morientes but then again Anelka is being linked with us so that is another possibility.

Other than does two I think Jermain Defoe would be a good signing but he will propably be too expensive. He's a good player and with the midfielders such as Alonso and Gerrard he could be scoring plenty of goals but its unlikely to happen.

Hey I'm not just a one trick pony either. Go back to the 'if you had to buy British' thread and you'll see I tipped up damien Francis as well. Scored three in the last few weeks from midfield. Champ man Stu? I'm doing the real thing mate.

We were really caught out badly by Owen's move, and now Cisse's absence has left us both without funds and suddenly needing 2 more strikers. Money's definitely an issue, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Fowler come back on the cheap, and maybe this Bowditch (who I still haven't seen) for a few million. Aside from those two, I think we're talking about bringing some players in on loan. And to be honest, the more I hear us linked to Morientes, the more I feel it's making it more likely that we won't get him.

We really need strength in depth up front - hopefully by January Mellor and/or Pongolle will have got some games under their belt and earned Benitez's trust that they can come in and do a job should we find ourselves with a couple of injuries in future.

Hey A.B. you know you and Stu row all the time. Reality is though, you are remarkably similar. If there was one thing I could be certain of after the Middlesboro defeat, it was that yous two wouldn't slag the team off. FWIW I think you're both over-loyal on occasions but I think you both add to the board when you post. Don't ever start getting on though, when you are at it its the best thing on the forum.

If he has a spanish passport then he is a realistic signing.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

Ivor you have stuck to your guns all the way on the Fowler question. I respect that. it's all very well saying sign Morientes, we all know he's a good player and would do well. In reality we all hope we sign him. But to go out on a limb about a non-obvious choice takes balls and fair-play, you've never let up on Fowler. Some of the scouse lads and lasses on the forum are adamant that the rumour drums are beating to this effect aswell so we may well see before too long how good your judgement is.
I can't see it but I'll tell you what Ivor, if I'm wrong on two counts and firstly we sign him and secondly he does the biz I'll be ecstatic to be wrong.

If Fowler was not an ex Anfield hero we would not be banting his name around in this thread.
Look ahead.

How to get a guaranteed full house every week with one cheap signing  :D

It does make me laugh when people bring up whoever's flavour of the month on the continent though. For some reason people aren't quite getting the point that we can't splash out £14m on Cisse and still have that kind of money available for ANOTHER striker. If money is going to be spent on strikers, it'll be in the sub £4m bracket, and there aren't too many quality strikers willing to move in the Premiership, even less that would move for that sort of money.

If you were to make a list of cheap, available strikers - Fowler's name would definitely be in there. Personally I think we fluffed badly by not getting in the hunt for Hasselbaink over the summer, but that bird has flown. Beattie's name will keep coming up I'm sure, but for me we may as well just give Mellor a chance, as he's potentially much the same player.

My guess is that during the January window we'll see some seriously shrewd overseas dealmaking from Benitez. Maybe a loan signing or two to tide us over to summer. I'd be surprised if we'd seen the last Spanish arrival, anyway.

You make it sound like we're Everton who can only spend 10 million come January. Come on now we have more than that.
