Huge pressure on for Slot to get a result against Villa.

Arne was a breath of fresh air last season. But the one thing he did what annoyed me and many other fans was his tactical breakdown of how we won games last season. Now he looks clueless on the sideline.. not sure if its the changes on the coaching staff, Or Slot has run out of ideas. But he's got 2 games to save his job, because losing 6 out of 7 games is appalling at any level.

Honestly surprised we went with such an inexperienced side considering the squad I thought we had!! Was expecting a few but that was a lot and it accumulated in another loss. Really not what we needed and him resting so many piles the pressure on for a result Saturday night.

Have to mention the poor lad who got sent off. How unlucky can you be. You make the senior team twice and get sent off inside a few minutes in each game.  :upside:

Hes definitely more Rodgers than Klopp anyway   Villa Madrid and City aren't games you want to be relying on to save your job.
Even if we lose all 3 hes safe imo as FSG aren't going to start panicking yet. He will lose the players before the axe falls imo.

Anyway results have got to change one way or the other.

Villa, Madrid and City next 3, make or break I think.

Soo painful watching us these days. Mentally draining to say the least.

League Cup or not that team sheet was an insult last night, we essentially surrendered before a shot was fired in anger which is so against the culture here i actually found the game unsettling to watch. It wasn't just boring as i say it was actually unsettling, i wasn't just getting those usual feelings that you get when you watch us lose [disappointment, frustration, anger etc] i actually felt uneasy, uncomfortable.
What was the reason we hoisted the white flag and surrendered before a ball was kicked? To give players a rest? We are in October mate not April, i wouldn't mind but our so called first team squad have largely been going through the motions all season anyway, Newcastle out ran them with 10 men, we are not exactly talking a Klopp gegenpressing machine who genuinely need a rest here are we.
IMO it was absolutely disgraceful how we went out last night, any team can lose a football match but it looked like the club had lost the will to fight.

Still struggling to get my head round that team/sub selection yesterday. Given we were up against a fellow prem side who are playing well, it's a complete surrender in front of our own fans. Think we could have mixed it up more and still have been OK tbh.

He just needs to be careful with some of these decisions as we are so used to competing on all fronts at this club that these things don't necessarily just get forgotten about even more so when we are in a poor run.

Big game v Villa now and they've beaten City and Spurs in their last two so will be confident and Emery is a shrewd operator but its time for the players to just step up and put in a performance at home and just get the job done now.

I was just listening to some of Slot's post match comments and he basically said that our squad isn't big enough and that we can't compete. Well what the hell man, didn't we spend a king's ransom just a couple of months ago? If he thought we lacked squad depth then maybe we should have spent the money on more players instead of risking it all on one or two. It's honestly a ridiculous thing to say after spending so much.

I also recall last season when he arrived that he said he preferred working with smaller squads anyway. And that statement also kinda indicated his lack of experience and knowledge at the highest level. A big squad is a must at this level, I really hope he's not learning that just now.

If he had concerns about squad depth he could have also let fewer players leave, never mind the bigger names that left like Trent, Lucho, and Darwin etc steady eddie's like Kelleher, Kostas and Quansah [who had a great tournament for the England U21's during the summer btw] would all come in pretty handy right now.

Yeah I wanted to say that as well but we were told most of those players wanted to leave so not much you can do about that I guess, if it's true. But we are definitelly missing some of those players, not just for squad depth but Diaz was one I feared we'd miss greatly and it's been proven to be true and even Darwin for the fight in him alone which is something we're lacking at the moment. Kelleher was for sure the best number 2 there can be, Marmadashvilli not even close to him IMO.

Not here to defend Slott, Christ knows there's a lot of things to question about his management atm, BUT !  I will say to those who talk about the players he (?) let go and the players he (?) has signed ??????
I'm far from convinced that Slott had anything anywhere near the FINAL say on any of the departures or arrivals . It's my opinion that he was told by those above him "here's what we're gonna do, we expect you to comply and deal with it"

OK, he's complied but sadly has failed to deal with the hand he's been dealt. We can put all the blame on him BUT to be fair, despite the apparent wealth of attacking options how the f*ck do you expect to be successful with a defence that has a new RB seemingly always injured, a CB that apparently doesn't want to be here and another that despite his best efforts is like the lad with his fingers in the Dyke attempting to stop the water cascading through, Allied to that we have a new LB that for some far fetched reason thinks he's a f*cking winger  :lookaround

F*ck it I'm rambling now. Suffice to say IMO Slott has to take responsibility for the teams current diabolical run of form BUT that's not to excuse those who have dealt him that team.  :kungfu:

We lost Guehi haggling over 5m when all the world could see we needed strengthening in defence and bought Isak for a record fee when we didn’t need him, that is not Slot.

Think Palace was happy with the fee tbh but just couldnt get a replacement in time. As a result we should have offered them Gomez on loan to get that deal over the line. Hes been unreal so far this season as well but they will want a fee in January. We probably will look to get it done cheap which would be another disaster play.

Your right though, none of that is down to Slot.
