Reports on local Liverpool radio state that ex manager Gerard Houllier has been stopped "popping in" on training sessions by new manager Rafa Benitez. Apparently Houllier has been calling in with alarming regularity recently & Benitez has decided that it is becoming unsettling for the players. Houllier still a resedent of Merseyside is looking for employment at the moment & must be at a loose end! Oh well' he'd see where he was going wrong!

Remember, he said he likes going there to 'smell the grass' !! and I thought that was only when it was being smoked by Robbie Fowler and Steve Mcmanaman.

I think that's really sad. Somebody summed it up perfectly on another thread saying it was like The Office when David Brent's been fired but keeps turning up and wants to got to the xmas party. Sad stuff.

Feel sorry for him but. He did take the team to the treble season. Its still holds a huge part of his life, and its not nice that Beni has banned him. If he has started to put his nose in, and started talking to the players about their game, then fair enough, but when its a casual visit every now and then, yknow, its ok

Houllier werent a bad manager, I get the impression alot of players didnt wanna play for him and that holds sway unfortunately. Too much player power in footy these days. I do think he should be told not to 'stick his nose in', but bannin the Treble winnin manager is a bit drastic. If he still wants a job, Stourbridge Glassboys'd take him!!

ohh don't ban houllier! we could use him as a striker... but he has heart problems so maybe that's why Rafa didn't want him....
seriously now... he shouldn't be visiting Melwood... it's kinda unethical imho

Unethical?

I dont know about that, its definetely naive though. I hope Benitez doesnt feel threatened, not by his position, but by his coaching abilities.
I think Rafa might have banned him because Houllier's sticky beaking. Thats the only reason i can think of.

Reminds me of Evans/Houllier combination at the start.

Feel sorry for the old guy, I never really respected him as a coach, but now i guess you can see that he really respects this club and without football doesn't know what to do.

I know this sounds a little harsh (but what the heck), but if houllier died, i guess his sprit will also be roaming anfield. And all the players who bad-mouted him better watch out

(Baros, Dudek, Gerrard).

A guy of his experience should know full well that this kind of thing is unacceptable. I wouldnt think he would like it and he should respect that and keep away. Theres no exuse for it. I must say that I am hardly surprised. He left the club kicking and screaming and amazingly was allowed to host his own press conference on departure. This was his oppertunity to take reel off his achievements and once again inform us that are expectations are unrealistic, in a nice way ofcourse, and that we are making a mistake in getting rid of him. Much like when he was at the helm, he cannot see his mistakes, or more likely refuses to hold his hands up when he has gone wrong. Its this arrogance that has seem him return to Anfield where he obviously thinks he still belongs. Thankfully Benitez has showed him the door yet again.
