I don't know why so many are surprised by this fee? My only concern is that JA's contract finishes next year too which he could play hard ball knowing in 12 months time he writes his own cheque. I wouldn't be surprised if LFC offered him a new contract and then sell him on. To be frank, it's the least the player owes the club. However, in this day and age; integrity doesn't seem to exist...

In other news I see Celtic have lost 1-0 to a team of part timers from Gibraltar in the first leg of their CL qualifier.
No doubt they'll turn things around in the second leg at Parkhead but still it's sad to see such a great club and an ex Liverpool manager suffer such a bad result.

Hopefully that's a ploy to get us back to the table. Surely we can take a bit of a loss on this one, after all we are paying him in excess of a £100k a week, just keeping him on our books costs us over £5 million a year !!!

Agreed. It's ridiculous keeping him. I'd have bit your hand off for £20m never mind £30m.

If he's still a Liverpool player in September I'll be annoyed at the way the club has handled this

He will go by the end of the window. Game of cat and mouse at the moment. As the window draws to an Palace will meet our asking price or we will budge on the price and strike a deal. Still plenty of time so both sides playing it cool

Contrary to popular belief, Benteke is still highly regarded by many clubs. God knows why, he has been found to be as one dimensional as a cardboard cut out. But I'm confident we'll get what we want. West Ham might come back with another offer.
