Luis Suarez has been given a nine-game international ban and a four-month suspension from all football for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.
The Uruguay forward will play no further part in the World Cup in Brazil after his attack on Chiellini during his side’s final group game on Tuesday, a 1-0 Uruguay win which saw them progress at Italy’s expense.
Fifa confirmed the news at its daily briefing in Rio de Janeiro. The player has also been fined 100,000 Swiss francs (€82,227).

The four-month ban would prevent Suarez playing club football for Liverpool but he and the Uruguay FA are able to appeal against the sanctions.
However, even if the appeal is lodged and the process is under way he will not be able play in any matches.
A statement from Fifa read: “The player Luis Suarez is to be suspended for nine official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on June 28, 2014. The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team (remains in the competition), and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches.
“The player Luis Suarez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four months.”
The four-month ban begins today and means he will also miss nine Premier League games for Liverpool if he remains at the club.
That would mean the first game he would be available for would be the meeting with Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday November 1st.
Fifa’s statement continued: “A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suarez in accordance with article 21 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code as follows: the player Luis Suarez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban.
“The player Luis Suarez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension.
“The player Luis Suarez is ordered to pay a fine in the amount of 100,000 Swiss Francs.”
Claudio Sulser, the chairman of the Fifa disciplinary committee, said the panel had taken into account all the factors in the case.
Sulser said: “Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a Fifa World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field.
“The disciplinary committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suarez’s guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the dode. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated.”

How many games would Suarez miss in your fantasy world?

In the real world he is out for 9 games what a Joke!

Its nine international games plus league and CL games for Liverpool unless and I really like it to be that  im reading it wrong

Nope it's a 4 month ban which means 9 league games and i don't know how many CL. Instead of looking for players to fill the holes we already have now we have to handle another gap because of this a$$hole.

Absolutely disgraceful decision. A ten game international ban I could have seen but this is a joke. Got to appeal against that. How they can justify giving him that in comparison to other bans for greater offences is beyond belief quite honestly.

Accordingly to the commentary of this, only Uruguay can appeal this decision - Liverpool cannot.

And the clarify other posts, the 9 games quoted in the statement is 9 international competitive games. He is free to play friendlies appartently. The time portion of it is 4 months and is inclusive of any competitive game within that time frame. According to Dan Roan at the BBC, his return game is Newcastle on Nov 1.

What is unclear is what the phrase "ban from all footballing activity, including administrative" means. Some reporters are saying this is FIFA's way of preventing a transfer involving Suarez.

So...looks like it's you who have struggled to understand that FIFA does have the fucking power to ban a player from all footballing activities. I'm pissed at the severity of the ban imposed but not at all surprised to see FIFA taking this unprecedented action...mainly due to the unsporting nature in a high profile event such as this, and that he is a repeat offender. I hoped this time someone will finally smash the fucking alarm clock at his head and get him to wake the fuck up!

He will miss 3 CL games. What is clear is the boy needs help. I don't think any of the biting incidents were pre-meditated. Luis plays on the edge, which gives him his hunger instinct....in more ways than one. Hopefully now he will realise he needs serious help.... and Liverpool will be willing to send him to professionals who can help him. Don't think we should give up on him yet, provided he shows true desire to stamp out this nasty habit of his.

FIFA just make it up as they go along. I wonder what Zidane would have got had he not retired after his sending off... My bet is a three game ban

you smug muppet.
i never denied fifa had not got the power to do it. i said that they wouldnt give him a worldwide ban. this is what i said

the point you seem to be missing is that he will recieve an international ban for violent conduct which will not stretch to the premier league. the english fa will have no jurisdiction or power to enforce any other ban on him unless fifa give him a worldwide ban. which they wont  :no

The tough part about this is that now it puts us in a really tough spot.  If LFC appeal the decision it really will open up club to a wrath of worldwide criticism.  It really does suck that we are being hurt by this more than anyone, including Suarez himself.

I didn't want to see him sold.  Now his transfer value has plummeted.  We've got a much busier schedule this coming season.  And we will be without our best player for at least 1/3 of it.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

It would be interesting if Platini decided to use this event to go against Blatter, and FIFA, by refusing to acknowledge the club football and CL portion?

We don't have to sell, he has years left on his contract.

The club may take the view to hold onto him until this blows over. Then sell him
