Suarez proved last night for me that without him and coutinho, Liverpool wouldn't be half the side we are and we need to look at serious investment.

They are all different players. One is the best athlete that runs like a horse and has a very powerful knuckleshot but easily gets snuffed out of games, one is the best technically and probably the most complete player and one has the most heart and the best competitor.

I'd agree that over the course of their careers they are on a higher level than Luis but frankly this year he has been unreal in terms of the goals he's scored and he has not been showcasing his talents in the CL. Volleys from 40 yards, power headers from the edge of the penalty area, soft guided headers, free kicks, chips from midfield, curlers with the outside of his weaker foot, countless one on ones and all the assists and tap-ins. This year it has been Luis that has been on a higher level and frankly insane. I worried that he was that good only as he was super motivated due to all the flak he was getting and the summer transfer saga but watching him in the WC yesterday he looked like the same player and on form the best right now. I just hope he is with us next year as for 100 million he would still be irreplacable, he will be harder to replace than Gerrard.

Talk sport are saying that Barcelona are now interested in him, We'll do well to hold on to him this summer, especially now that there's no ambiguity about release clauses in his new contract.

85 million plus Sanchez sounds reasonable

Barca wouldn't pay that but Sanchez + reasonable amount of cash wouldn't be the worst outcome if the worst did happen, Sanchez is a marquee name and if we could sign Markovic as well we'd still have a formidable front line.
What will probably happen though is that we end up with £20m + Pedro and Tello  :(

If he is to leave, the club would do well to start an auction and drive up his value. Not sure what was written into his new contract but I would consider anything south of £100M to be a bad deal.

Also I would want to bring in replacement first as selling clubs tends to up their asking price once we're considered a moneybag.

You can't replace a talent like Luis but you can substitute with a better quality team. Supposed everything being equal and the replacement striker could net 15 goals and our defence reinforcement enable us to concede 20~25 less goals, then we would do well.

But I would still want to have Luis playing for us next season...

The problem is though mate that Suarez's agent would have made damn sure that the buy out clause wasn't ridiculously high.
I think it's probably somewhere around £55m-£70m which I suppose in the cold light of day is still a hell of a lot of money for someone who will be 28 mid way through next season.
Losing Luis would be a huge blow but that blow would be definitely softened if we could bring in 2 players like Sanchez and Markovic, i just don't have the confidence in our transfer comittee to do that though, I think it would be more like Lallana and Pedro.
I do think that last nights performance probably made up Barcelona's and Real Madrids mind, I think we'll definitely get bids in for him it's just a question of wether Luis is prepared to turn those Spanish giants down, not many South Americans do though.

We can't play hardball this time Dev, and at near 28 Suarez may feel that it's now or never in terms of playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona. If he doesn't go now I don't think he ever will so I suppose we only have one more summer of speculation to put up with.
IMO over the next few weeks we'll find out if he's off or a Liverpool player for the rest of his career, that's the way I see it anyway.

Unfortunately it's like having a sizzling hot girl friend or a super rich husband...there will always be some opportunist or someone in a better position who are eyeing to take him/her away from you at every opportunity. Just accept that the speculation will NEVER end and it's how street smart are the suits in managing or leveraging this situation. Problem is I don't think ours have balls to ever play hard ball on situation like this...like some Daniel Levy (the kind that will squeeze every penny out of the buying club not the kind that fires a manager every 6 months). I feel this time around the pull from Barca & Madrid will grow so strong as they are desperate and need to quickly re-group and be the alpha male in La Liga again. Only thing stopping them this time will be Suarez's loyalty...so we'll see.

To be so sure and even think that Luis is going no where is simply deluded and live away from reality!

It's possible, but I don't think that Suarez will leave.

Anyway, heard he said a few comments after the England game that yesterday was his revenge about all the criticism he received from English media and fans. I get what he means but half of his teammates play for England.

I don't blame him, his comments were not about the England team but about the media and the sh!t he gets from opposition fans and also Roy saying just before the match that Suarez isn't world class probably wound him up a bit. He has probably been looking for an opportunity to stick it to the media for a while now.

I do think we may struggle to keep him if as is speculated that both Barca and RM start a bidding war for him, I read that he has a £100m buyout if its another EPL club and £70m if its from abroad.

I read yesterday that he had a special provision that if Real or Barca show up the buyout clause is 52 million. Not sure how true.

It is the dream of every footballer to play for either of Barca or RM. A player who plays for either of those 2 is a sign that he is a footballer who has made it to the top echelons esp. for a South American. If they come knocking, he will be gone. It's only a question of how much we can get for him and who can we buy for Brendan to design his tactics to make up for the loss of our star man. It's unlikely we can find someone whose as good as him, but we can use the fund to sign a few quality players to make up for it.

Ultimately it's not about any player, it's about the team. I would be more worried if Brendan had been tempted to manage at some other club. When LS was suspended for 10 games for biting, our results were not much affected by his absence. In fact our biggest win since Brendan took over (6-0 at St.James' Park) was without LS. I will miss LS if he goes but Brendan has to make sure he can get the right signings for his tactics to have another crack at the title.

If we sell him we can forget winning the league. You cant replace your best player add third best player in the world. Unless barca come knocking and offer us messi then they should get told to get lost. If it was me and I was Rodgers the press statement would come out and say something along those lines so everyone knows where they stand.

Suarez is that good I wouldn't swap him for Sanchez Pedro and twenty five million.
