I don't get the link with Lovren the other day. The guy is just as likely to make a rick as any of the defenders we have now.

It's far too early to be worried. 1) They need a new manager we don't 2 & 3) They were always going to spend after the disaster of a season they just had.

We will get players in for sure.

Oh yes I understand that. But it shows their urgency and getting the necessary end of the business done quick and fast...it gives out a strong statement of intent to our rivals! Beside I believe the best deals are to be had early, not when the selling club have you by the balls!

Taking about not getting worried... we do have a Chief Executive with a track record of screwing up deals just because he thinks he can be a tight ar$e. Would hate to see our ambition being screwed because we don't manage to reinforce our team. We need to push forward from a position of strength

I agree it would be great to get deals sorted early, especially with the World Cup coming up.
At least we can hopefully attract a better quality of player.

A proven goalscorer for free... what more do you want? He will be an able back up to sturridge and suarez... no more no less...

And that's the thing that worries me.

Ayre and his inept team of "recruiting" lemmings have f**ked us over too many times. I will go as far as saying that they and to certain degree our owners cost us the title with tight a** tactics and the inability to close out any January deals. That is as clear as day yet you have a brigade on here who will defend them religiously, with the same old drivel.

We need better suits at the club because this season is as important as the ones that Houllier and Benitez had after they came 2nd respectively. Both had spectacular failures when it came to recruiting in the off season where we regressed instead if going on and challenging once again. Based on our track record and executive ineptitude we have every reason to be worried.

I heard about Lampard as well. Not all that surprising but I always thought that he'll retire at Chelsea.

But the rumor that really shocked me is that PSG have offered Chelsea 50 million for David Luiz. That must be a joke surely?

Shocking about Luiz mate, the guy hits a mean freekick (sometimes) but is a total liability, will never forget that time he cheated and was smirking at the camera :D   (below)

For all his faults I like Luiz, off the cuff player and a cheeky b@stard but a real character.
He is a talented boy though but no ones got a grip of him yet.

I would have liked to see him play for Liverpool in that defensive midfield role, but £50m
is an outrageous price and a hellish deal for Chelsea.

They will be looking at the top names this summer, no messing Im sure so we will do well
to finish above them again.

Liverpool and Arsenal have been offered Brazil international Bernard.

The 21-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk star has been made available, and parties working on behalf of the livewire winger have been touch with the Premier League sides over a potential deal.

Bernard's £19m fee has priced out potential suitors in his homeland, and both the Gunners and the Reds are weighing up a bid.

Liverpool have reportedly held talks with Loic Remy over a possible switch to Anfield.

The Frenchman, who is contracted to Queens Park Rangers, spent last season on loan at Newcastle United and impressed by scoring 14 goals.

However, Remy is believed to be keen on a move to a bigger club, and the Reds have entered into discussions with his representatives, according to the Daily Mail.

Liverpool are close to pushing through a surprise £10million deal for rising German star Emre Can.

And the Reds are desperate to complete the transfer as urgently as possible, to head off any chance of Bayern Munich muscling in on the action.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is a big admirer of the versatile 20-year-old, who has captained his country at every level from U15 through to U21s.

Can can play in all midfield positions and also fill in at left back and centre half, making him a valuable addition, given he is rated one of the most promising young players in his country after a fine season with Bayer Leverkusen.

But the German-Turkish star spent all his formative years with giants Munich before making a £4.5m switch last summer, and Bayern DO have a buy-back clause.

The good news for the Reds though, is that can't be activated until 2015, and that means Liverpool can get their man this summer without any competition...especially as he has an automatic £10m release clause in his contract.

Emre Can latest

http://paisleygates.com/?p=17002

With the deal seemingly dead before it even got off the ground, Liverpool now appear poised to make Bayer Leverkusen midfield maestro Emre Can the first signing of the transfer window.

The highly rated 20-year old has a complicated contract which sees German juggernauts Bayern Munich hold a buy-back clause in his contract after shipping the youngster out for £4.5mil last summer. Although we’re light on the fine grain details at the moment, it appears that should the £10mil buy-out clause in his current contract be activated, Bayern’s claim to the youngster — which they apparently can’t exercise until 2015 anyway — will be null and utterly void leaving the Reds to snap up the versatile midfielder. Is that confusing enough for you?

Again, there’s a whole lot of speculation and not a lot of cold, hard facts floating around, but Times journalist Tony Barrett has confirmed that the Anfield outfit have made a “breakthrough” in their pursuit of the player and are “closing in” on a £12mil deal for Can. Though it seems a bit odd that we’d be playing over and above the £10mil that’s rumoured to be his buy-out clause, Brendan Rodgers is thought to be a keen admirer of the player — who can play all across midfield — and wants to have this deal wrapped up as soon as possible to avoid any poachers swooping in.

Done deal or another bit of smoke and mirrors? “We know of their interest but there is nothing official,” said German legend and incumbent Leverkusen Sporting Director Rudi Voller yesterday, confirming that Liverpool have a vested interest in the player. “Of course Emre has a clause in his contract now and we’re still waiting for a decision. The return on our investment would make for lucrative business.”

More on this as it inevitably develops…
