Well according to the Echo at the end of last season Reina's agent called a meeting with Brendan and Ayre and told them to expect an £8m bid for Pepe from Barcelona, he also told them that the bid would arrive before the summer was out and the player would prefer it if Liverpool accepted the offer.

This is the story I heard, from multiple sources.

Reina: I'm going to Barca, ta ta
LFC: Ok, good luck.
Reina: Oh wait, no i'm not, can I stay?
LFC: Oh...

At the time BR and the owners got untold stick from fans for cutting wages, but in reality Reina wanted to have his cake and eat it. Now, i'm not slagging the guy off (Barca is his boyhood team) but we need players here for the duration. If it's true and Barca has cooled their interest then his best bet will to stay with Rafa in Italy. His time is up here, sadly.

true...but we wouldn't have bought Mig if Reina hadn't have flashed his knickers at Barca first

Maybe, maybe not. Pepe's wages were a problem and I don't think he was seen as good value. He gave Liverpool a get out clause so as not to overly upset the fans. Suarez did the same but he was considered to be an extremely valuable asset.

Apparently, Everton want to sign Allen. If they offer a bit more I might be temped. If not, a straight swap for Barkley and they have a deal

I'd much prefer mirallas...he would be an improvement over sterling...as much as I hate to see a good young player lose his place.

Barkley would be the perfect long term replacement for Gerrard.

Let's take a step back beyond the Mirallas - Barkley comparison.

Really? You won't find many supporters agreeing on that one. I doubt even all bluenoses think that way

I would really love to see Coleman, Barkley and Delofeu in a Liverpool jersey.

Anyway, as we've got defensive issues, anyone here rates Mangala from Porto? He's really highly rated and both Manchester clubs want him.

Yeah good point SCS, never mind the Barkley / Mirallas debate, no way is Mirallas as good as Sterling.
And re - our defence, I think Rodgers will eventually go with Sakho and Ilori in the long term, wether we need to bring someone for the transitionary period (or wether Skrtel/Agger can do that job) is open to debate.
