I think that is exactly the bunsen burner that needed to be put under our owner's a**ses.

No waiting around and scratching your b**ls nonsense.  BANG! BANG! 37m spent on one quality player.

Mark my words the filth have strengthened and they are coming to take 4th away from us.

Over the next week we are going to see what these yanks are truly made of.  :suspect:

Good, he looks average from what I have seen and most of us didn't want him here anyway.

Blessing in disguise really.

wrong.  Salah is better than average. If Chelsea hijack the deal then it's our own fault for dilly dallying around. Salah will be quality in the Prem.

I'm gutted the scum have got Mata though, might not get champ.league footy next season either.

Naive poster of the day award goes to....

To be fair on the 9th of January James Pearce (the Liverpool fc correspondent for the echo) said that we were negotiating with Basel but were unwilling to match their £13m asking price. He said if the price didn't come down then the deal wouldn't happen. That was 2 weeks ago.
I know you should always drive a hard bargain but these days in footballing terms £13m isn't a huge figure especially for a highly rated 21 year old player with his whole career ahead of him. I reckon if we would have put the money on the table 2 weeks ago he'd be a Liverpool player now.
We recently spent £25m on virtual unknowns in Aspas Alberto and Ilorri who never get near the first team but by the same token we are unwilling to spend half that on a highly rated rising talent?
If you drag out transfer negotiations then this is what happens, sooner or later teams with more money are bound to come along, you'd think we'd have learned our lesson after the mkhitaryan and willian debacles last summer, obviously not.
Wether we needed another forward is another question altogether but once we were in for him to lose out to Chelsea for the sake of 3 or 4 million quid is frustrating.

All I can find about Salah to Chelsea is in the Daily mail saying Chelsea are considering a bid of £11m. That doesnt sound like a done deal to me, if anyone have better info please share link.  ???

Our priority shouldn't be with Salah but a holding MF to cover/replace Lucas position. Weeks ago I asked for us to put a bid for Mata but it seems we were caught napping ,again.
I really question our transfer market dealing and capabilities ,I think those guys haven't got a clue. (Aspas ,Illori ,Alberto ,Cissoko). Been like that for ages.

The mods over on RAWK have been told by credible ITK's ( apparently the Chelsea offer is £18m though)
Apparently Ballague has tweeted in Spanish that Rooney is up for sale, don't know if it's true or not but it wouldn't surprise me if it was true because Chelsea letting Mata go to United made no sense at all.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that when this window is closed Chelsea have Rooney and Salah, United have Mata and we have no one! ESPN sources are saying that we are no longer interested in DeJong.

This is all very frustrating, just who in the f**king world are we interested in? We need reinforcements, like, yesterday.

So if we again get hijacked by Cheaski for a player we want, what is the club doing about it?  If Mata is at Mwanck United, then they have strengthened and if Cheaski get Salah, than they have also strengthened. We, on the other hand are sitting around playing chipsticks.

Chelsea have already spent £21m on that Matic too, after Ballague's tweet I think it's inevitable that Rooney will end up at Chelsea at some point (maybe not this window but deffo in the summer). There has to be some reason why Mourinho would allow player as good as Mata to go to one their biggest rivals.

hang on a god damn cotton picking minute! If Chelsea sell Mata to Manc utd and they want Rooney, why wasn't Rooney included in a swap deal then? would make sense for man utd to pay £10m plus Rooney for Mata, So their cash flow isn't dented as much.

Especially when Rooneys contract is not too far from the end.
The longer united wait when he does not sign the lower in value he will be.

I understand to an extent people moaning about Mata going to United but realistically we were never going to be in for him at that money.
Given the fact that our options are not that bad in that area especially.

I agree with Yakka that we should be looking at signing someone for the positions in the team we are weakest so the Salah one is a strange one if he is our major target for January.

Chelsea selling Mata to United is a serious head scratcher... they've dominated for 20 years!  They're finally in major decline, step on their f.ucking heads while they're drowning.  I can't see why Chelsea would sell them one of the best players in the league.
Possibly has something to do with Rooney.

As for ourselves, I'm sure we'll bring someone in if somebody becomes available for the right price.

United won't let Rooney go now with them clinging onto 4th by their fingernails, but there's no way Mourinho would have sold Mata to United without getting something in return either. IMO Rooney will sign for Chelsea in the summer.

It's very frustrating. Are we even gonna sign anyone!!??

There aren't many notable transfers except Matic to Chelsea but then again when you look at the 3 teams above us, they have depth. We don't. Hence it makes sense for them if they don't buy as they aren't in dire straits like we are.

We need a new defensive midfielder asap as Gerrard can't do it and Lucas is injured. Ilori who can play there has gone out on loan, and so have Coates (back to Nacional I think). We need a fullback as with Flanagan and Enrique out, we have 2 donkeys in Johnson and Cissokho who aren't putting much effort at all, while I doubt the latter really is a footballer to begin with.

We've got a massive chance of getting back in the ECL and BR must ensure he doesn't fk up by placing too much faith in the current side. The Montoya deal looks off as well seeing that he's been playing a lot lately due to Alves' injury. Tello just had a blinder last night against Levante.
