I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I thought that it would be smarter to loan Ilori to another English club. Didn't Rodgers want him to adapt to the English style of play? That can't happen if we loan him out in Spain.

Anyway, apparently Rodgers was at the Benfica vs Porto game to scout Porto's DM Fernando. That has been our strongest rumor in this transfer window so if we sign someone in this window it will probably be Fernando. I'm not saying that he's a bad player but I don't think that he's exactly what we need. Yann M'Vila, another DM we've been linked with, will suit us more IMO.

I liked this one Liverpool Echo website, had a bit of chuckle:

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain are prepared to offer Liverpool a huge offer of £35m plus their choice of one of four player to bring their star striker Luis Suarez to the club either during the January transfer window or at the end of the season.

Reports suggest PSG are keen on making a more significant assault on the Champions League, a competition that Suarez would be able to participate in this term as the Anfield side have not featured in the tournament this season.

The defending Ligue 1 champions are willing to offer Liverpool £35m and will throw either Ezequiel Lavezzi, Javier Pastore, Jeremy Menez or Adrien Rabiot into the mix to help tempt the club into parting with him.

The Reds had previously been linked with moves for Menez and Pastore but PSG have consistently sought to warn the club off making an official approach, but will now eagerly offer one of them to help soften the blow.

In what reality would we ever do something as daft as that?

Throw in all 4 players and 35m and we could consider it, but one

James Pearce of the echo said a week ago that Basel have quoted Liverpool a £13m price tag for Salah but we have baulked at the price, so in a nutshell unless they lower their demands that deal won't be happening. He also said that no other deals were 'imminent' but that's to be expected because most transfers happen towards the end of the month anyway.
That was on the 9th so make of that what you will.
The club surprised everyone with suarez's contract extension so I'm just hoping for a similar fait accompli with a new signing.

if salah is truly the exceptional player rodgers believes then £13 mil isnt the end of the world, it isnt even the going rate for a top prospect.
if we arent prepared to spend that kind of money on a player who the manager believes will strengthen our 1st 11 and fire us towards  top 4 then i fear the players we will end up with

I don't even think a forward is a priority ATM, we already have 4 excellent players vying for just 3 places (Suarez, coutinho, Sturridge and sterling).
We seem to have made an art form out of buying players that end up on the bench or strengthening area's of the squad that aren't an immediate concern.
Surely this transfer comittee of ours can see that we need a CM and a fullback? Why are we spending so much time and effort trying to strengthen the one area of our team that ATM doesn't need bolstering?
Baffled.  ???

I don't see that we need a CB at all. In fact we have loads....

Agger, Skrtel, Toure, Sakho as first eleven, then Illoris, Wisdom, Kelly as squad members. The fact we are loaning out Illoris and have already loaned Wisdom would suggest BR feels we have enough there.

A DM and another first team striker for me. God forbid if we lose Suarez and Sturridge at the same time.

The problem with bringing in another striker though is that he is more than likely going to be joining aspas on the bench.
I'd be amazed if we could find someone (especially within our budget range) that could dislodge Suarez or Sturridge from the team.
Besides I'd go as far as to say up front is the one area of the team that doesn't need strengthening ATM.
I'd much rather see us bring in a quality DM and fullback. We are desperate for reinforcements in those 2 area's IMO.
I'd also like to see any money we spend actually end up running about on the pitch for a change, as opposed to sitting on the bench or going out on loan.

it has been a quiet window, but John Henry and Tom Werner are in town for the Villa game, wonder if transfers will be discussed?

Apparently, the transfer committee along with Henry and Werner has held it's first meeting today and we should expect to be more active in the following days.

This has been an active rumor for some time now. Him and Fernando are the players we've been mostly linked with.

Anyway, M'Vila was a fantastic player during his time in France. Good tackler and a good engine. No Xabi Alonso but a great passer as well. He would fit perfectly in our system IMO and that's a player that I would like to see here.

However, I haven't seen him since he moved to Russia (strange decision by him to move there), not even in international games (he used to be a regular for France), so I fear that his form might have dipped.
