That second link on the page you supplied gives more insight

Mirror on line

Brendan Rodgers’ rebuilding project at Anfield has gone encouragingly well so far - defeat at Arsenal aside - and the Liverpool boss has identified FC Basel’s talented Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah as a January target to keep the momentum going.

But is he any good? Would he fit into to Rodgers' system at Liverpool?

Here’s Ross Dunbar with everything you need to know about the 21-year-old:

Salah has been on the radar of some English and German clubs for well over a year.

In fact, the option was on the table for the Egypt international to leave Switzerland over the summer, but Champions League football and the chance to add to his medal haul at Basel eventually convinced him to stay at the club.

Salah’s demand for Champions League football will be a crucial selling point for any of his admirers in January or next summer.

The sad events in the Port Said stadium riot in January 2012 forced the Egyptian Premier League into shutdown mode and after impressing for Egypt’s U23 side – in a friendly against Basel, funnily enough – he signed for the Swiss side in June 2012.

With little time for transition into Swiss football following the departure of Xherdan Shaqiri to Bayern Munich, Salah has learned the hard way. Without speaking anything but Arabic, he let his football do the talking.

Goals against Chelsea and Tottenham in the UEFA Europa League last season made others sit-up and take notice of the Egyptian; both clubs even sent scouts to St-Jakob’s Park to watch Salah in domestic action.

But this season, Salah has grown in self-confidence, stepping up to the plate in a lacklustre performance against Ludogorets Razgrad to send FC Basel into the Champions League group stages.

At Chelsea, in one of the club’s most memorable triumphs, Salah was excellent, linking with the midfield to keep possession in tight areas, but also demonstrating his class when in key areas of the park.

He’s the new... Franck Ribery (sort of)
Quite hard to compare - he's not necessarily a winger – but he has similar traits to Franck Ribery, on the opposite side of the pitch.

Strengths
Despite playing notably wider than most attacking forwards – those who aren’t wingers – he has the intelligence to find space, while playing in an inverted style on to his left-foot, and he is willing to come out wide to get the ball.

Salah is a very quick runner off the ball, but he’s yet to convert that extra yard of pace into his game when in possession.

But sharp decision-making and movement is key to the Egyptian’s overall game and Salah has superb composure in-front of goal.

He rarely does boring tap-ins either, finishing intricate moves with conviction and as seen against Chelsea, he's especially clinical when presented with a chance on his left-side.

Weaknesses
Salah himself considers his heading ability as his biggest weakness.

His talents are there for all to see, but he can go hiding at times, if his side aren’t dominating the match. That’s the nature of his style, though, leaving him isolated when not brought enough into the play.

How would he fit into the Liverpool team?
If Liverpool can guarantee Champions League football for the young Egyptian, then Anfield could be a perfect destination for him. An interchanging forward line with Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Mohamed Salah would make the Kop buzz with excitement.

The key thing, though, will be guaranteed football in Europe’s Premier club competition.

Interest is strong from Germany. Schalke 04 could do much worse than snap him up, but Borussia Monchengladbach – assuming the Foals secure fourth – could be an attractive destination.

Gladbach’s Swiss coach Lucien Favre has also been sniffing around FC Basel’s prime talents, including Valentin Stocker.

Did you know?
His coach Murat Yakin has compared Salah’s raw pace to that of Olympic sprinting champion Usain Bolt.

Sounds like there's genuinely something going on with Salah, tho I'd be much more excited if all the rumors about Ivan Rakitic are true. Been an admirer of him for a few years now, and he's really stepping it up this year.

Yep almost an LFC player

http://www.alarab.qa/details.php?issueId=2210&artid=275610

I'll translate as it is in Arabic

Mohammad Salah: I'm close to becoming a Liverpool player

Salah, the egyptian international and Basel player, confirmed that he will transfer to Liverpool during this winter transfer window. Basel, are willing to let him move because of financial reasons. Salah also confirmed to the ''arab'' that he spoke to Didier Drogba during the African footballer of the year award of 2012 about moving to the English league and Drogba told him how Salah's playing style would be suited to the premier league because of it's pace and high intensity game, which Salah thrives in.

Alarab is a qatari newspaper, usually I would look into the Egyptian pages for more credible sources

I'm really not too sure about Salah. I've only seen him play a few times but I think that he's going to be another gamble like Aspas or Assaidi. He may come out good but it's far from a certainty. But I guess we can take the risk since we've got enough quality in our attack. I hope that we won't take the same approach when we look for a midfielder though. To be quite honest I don't even care who else we sign as long as we buy a good and proven midfielder.

Ok so I have looked at a few YouTube videos on this Salah character.

Mind you this was the "best of" so it's meant to be impressive!

I'm no impressed.  :glare:

All I see every second clip is a player who puts the ball about 15-20 meters in from him and sprints as quickly as possible to it.

This one trick pony may find it easy in the Swiss cheese and walk-like-an Egyptian leagues doing this, but will be murderised by Premier league defenders.  :no

Thanks but no thanks. Move in Rodgers, lad, move on.

he looked lively against chelsea in the CL though.
saying that with suarez, sturridge, coutinho and the rapidly improving sterling all fighting it out for just 3 places in our forward line i`m not sure a player like salah is an absolute priority atm, i`d much rather see us concentrate all our efforts on bringing in 1 if not 2 CM`s.

From Skysports Transfer Desk

Brendan Rodgers will 'try' to improve his squad in January and the Sunday Mirror reports that the Liverpool manager's top target in the transfer window is Sevilla playmaker Ivan Rakitic. Basel attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah and Barcelona defender Martin Montoya have also been linked with moves to Anfield.

I'd be happy with those 3 players, especially Rakitic.

I'd be thrilled. Rakitic could be huge for us, and Montoya would likely walk straight into the starting 11 too as we really need some help at both fullback positions. I'd be lying if I said much about Salah.

Spoke to some Egyptians, all of them rate him and think he would do very well (of course because of their bias) but I'm not so sure, especially he is a f*cking egyptian :D  kidding

Im with Eds. Not impressed with him at all. Why not go for Jeremy Menez!? At least he's a bigger name and is a better player. We can't keep buying unknown players who may end up like the next El Zhar or Assaidi and expect our best players like Suarez and Coutinho to stay.

Liverpool are chasing Udinese ace Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu as Brendan Rodgers draws up his list of January targets.

Reds boss Rodgers is desperate to bring in a handful of new players in the new year, having recently bemoaned the club’s lack of depth.

And while adding another full-back remains a clear priority, Liverpool are also in need of a natural defensive midfielder, and Ghanaian Agyemang-Badu is a new target.

The 23-year-old is rising star in Serie A and has been personally recommended to Rodgers by his European scouts.

Liverpool have been informed of the player’s desire to play in the Premier League, and are now planning a £7million bid.

Agyemang-Badu can play in both midfield and defence, meaning he would provide valuable cover as Rodgers’ men chase Champions League football.

Arsenal and Tottenham have both previously scouted the player, who is famed for his powerful and aggressive approach.

We should be looking at 20 million plus targets to improve the 1ST team not 7-8 millions...

Pedro and Alonso, no more, no less.

If we get those two we'll qualify for the champions league. If we don't, we won't. Simple as that.
