Andrew Powell
Jordan Henderson claims Liverpool can do better - despite their perfect start to the season.

The Reds entered the international break top of the Premier League for the first time since January 2009 and with the division's only 100 per cent record.

Brendan Rodgers’ men have also yet to concede a league goal in their victories at home to Stoke on opening day, away to Aston Villa and over arch-rivals Manchester United at Anfield.

Henderson is understandably delighted with their start, but insists they can do even better.

“We’ve got a lot of momentum after the first three games of the season,” said the £20million England midfielder.

“Beating Manchester United gave us a great boost, and it kept the winning mentality and the momentum going.

“But we know that it’s going to be difficult in our next few games, so we’ll have to keep focused and hopefully we can keep putting in performances like that.

“There’s always room for improvement and I’m sure we’ll work on that.

“But we’ve got to be very pleased with the three results. We’ll continue to keep working and keep building by working hard on the training ground.

“A lot of the lads are now on international duty, but from the people who are here, there’s a good aura about the place.

"And hopefully, when the lads come back, we can focus on our next game at Swansea.”

Henderson has been a key figure in Liverpool’s start, playing every minute, and credits Rodgers with making him a better player.

“I feel as though I’ve progressed over the last year or two,” he added. “The manager has been brilliant with me on a personal level, and with everybody else here.

“I’ve improved since he’s come to the club and he’s helped me to do that. We worked very hard pre-season and then in the games we have looked pretty solid as a team.

“The manager has definitely been working on that during the pre-season. The last three home games, we’ve done really well.”

Took complete responsibility of the midfield in the absence of Gerrard. Suarez might have been involved with more goals but Henderson performed when it really mattered during the game. Definitely my MOTM today and hope to see more of this  :buttrock

his vision and passing today were excellent, showed great stamina and deserved his goal even though he should have finished it first time.
by far this was the best performance he has put in in a red shirt and fully warranted the title of MOTM  :buttrock

Not one comment in Hendos thread 7th Sep to 15th Dec. I'm not suggesting for one minute that he has been rubbish. He simply wasn't setting the world on fire the way he did today and that is the difference. More of the same for the remainder of the season and suddenly the £20m price tag is looking meaningful. Fabulous   performance today. Keep it up Hendo.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

absolutely.
the lad has a lot of strong attributes, pace, strength and stamina but confidence is the biggest hurdle for him and maybe his brain  :D  but today i was surprised at the vision for some of his passing. it was excellent and full of confidence and that was the difference.
he really stepped up to the plate today and im delighted for the lad.
in him we have the player most of us are crying out for, someone that can run through a midfield, box to box for 90 minutes and can weigh in with a goal or 2.

Another player I stand by my judgement of, today however he was exceptionally good.

He invented a new role today called "The box to box to box to box to box to touchlines and corner flags" midfielder.

Absolute quality performance. Just a shame this isn't the norm.

first 10 mins of the game, spurs was dominating i was thinking how do we win with inexperienced hendo n allen in the middle and inconsistent sterling on right?
then we grew into the game and started to look very dangerous when we attacked spurs.
hendo reminds me of a young gerrard in the game, harassed spurs in the middle then the next moment joining in the attack,
he is still raw but got a evergreen energy and explosive power, like the young gerrard.
let hendo train his shooting and we will have a very very dangerous player here.

First ten minutes I don't think they had a kick!  ???

Henderson and Allen also aren't in experienced, far from it.

Also, Henderson can't shoot... Strange post that.

Great technique and composure to score. Loved how he and Suarez were tormenting Lloris throughout that play :D

Gerrard's replacement?  Behave.

Not in the same league as Gerrard if you look at Gerrard when he was 23.  Even now Gerrard is still better.

There could still be a place for Henderson in a Liverpool side challenging for major honours though.  Every team needs a worker and he's a beast physically.  I've always said I have no worries about the money invested in the lad, he's a good player.  Had his best game in a Liverpool shirt yesterday.

Not good enough to be a regular in a league winning side.

One outstanding performance isn't enough to convince most that the 2 years of average performances are a thing of the past.

Think one or two people are getting a little bit carried away at the moment!
