Arsenal lost Van Persie and Fabregas and that was partly down to their lack of footballing ambition. With some additional investment they could have been serious title challengers for many years. Top players will stay at top clubs. Does Ronaldo ever threaten to leave Real Madrid? Does Messi or  in fact half the Barca team ever threaten to leave? Clubs have an equal responsibility to ensure that players are motivated and content.

But Ronaldo did want to leave Man UTD when they were winning titles and CL - Rooney also. For Spanish speaking players it seems two clubs are the pinnacle - Madrid and Barce. They grow up in South America or Portugal or Spain etc dreaming of playing for either of those.

Thats what I believed with Suarez - he was following along with the likes of Ronaldo and Masher and Alonso by making a step forward to the club that was in their eyes the pinnacle of club football - all the media nonsense he was spouting was just nonsense - he wanted out and wanted to go and play CL for a club further forward than us currently. I don't think that's going to change because we won't be the top club for players to want to go to ( certainly not at the moment )

By pointing to Rooney you prove Devaney's point. He wanted to leave Man Utd on the basis he was going to play as more of a midfielder and also because he believed them to be lacking ambition in the transfer marker.

By pointing to Ronaldo you're using an absolute exception to the rule.

Alonso certainly wouldn't have left Liverpool if the manager hadn't ***** him off in the manor he did and Mascherano, sorry but we can do better.

Im sorry but you dont know what Alonso would or wouldnt have done( remember that statement you said of posting opinion as fact). I believe that regardless of what happened as soon as Madrid arrived with a £30mil bid he was off.

And the first time Rooney was thinking of leaving ?

And can we do better than Masher - like who exactly ? There is only a handful of players better at his role than Masher imo

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA you sure about that?

I can tell you for an absolute cast iron guarantee fact, Alonso left because of Benitez.

And you can shove your clueless opinions up your ***** like I said, I refuse to discuss your opinions with you because you're an idiot.

I have an opinion Stu - everyone has one , please attempt to understand that.

Anyway back to Suarez - Tim Vickery was on 5Live earlier talking about the playoff for the World Cup , he was saying that Tabarez was hoping for a very big lead from the first game and he was hoping to be able to give some fringe players playing time in the second leg and rest some senior players. Hopefully Suarez will be one

On paper a cracking deal indeed but only if they wanted to stay and weren't looking to get out after one season.

Obviously we don't know what their mindset would be but as I've said I'd always feel happier signing players who chose to join us and not one's that were told they weren't needed by their previous club.

Benzema? Modric?

These players wouldn't sign for us for the same reason that Suarez would want to go - Champions league football.

Forget about signing established star players until we're back in it, which might not be too far away.

Isn't that upto a manager to convince them to sign?

If A team finishes fifth or sixth, you're only two places outside the champions league spots. So if you're using that as your reason as to why they definately wouldn't sign then we need to do something about the manager.

Most players would sit out of the champions league for one season to get regular first team football. Of that I'm quite positive.

Ok.  Just so I'm clear.  If a player doesn't want to sign for us because we aren't in the champions league, then our manager is at fault for this? (Despite the fact that us dropping out of the CL places is absolutely nothing to do with our current manager).  Is that actually what you are suggesting?

Priceless player. They can offer 40 million plus Bale and it still wouldn't be enough.

Anyway, I don't want Benzema anywhere near our club. Very average player and won't fit with us. Modric maybe but Benzema, no way.

What a genius !! Fantastic hat-trick against a not too shabby West Brom. By the deserved standing ovation he received I think it is reasonable to assume that the apology with his feet and his head (what a goal !!) has been favourably accepted  If he carries on like this somebody will need massive pockets

With that kind of strike rate and goal threats that Luis offer, I think any amount below Bale's money should not even be considered...great game today
