Liverpool owner John W Henry has insisted that sufficient finances are in place to progress with the redevelopment of Anfield.

Henry's Fenway Sports Group are currently waiting for planning authorities to give the go-ahead to increase the stadium's capacity in a project believed to be costing around £154m.

The American businessman revealed that Liverpool City Council has made "Good" progress made "good progress" in buying up the few remaining privately-owned properties around the stadium in order to enable the Main Stand to be expanded.

Planning permission will only be sought once all deals are finalised, and Henry believes that - rather than the financing - remains the biggest hurdle.

"We are making good progress," Henry told the Liverpool Echo. "There are a lot of different groups working very well together and that's the key to a big project like this happening, when everybody is on the same page. When everybody is on the same page, we move forward.

"I think we were clear at one point that what made financial sense was going in this direction - and this is the direction that makes financial sense for the club for a long time.

"Obstacles are being overcome. We have always said you have to have certainty with regard to the properties because of the height of the stand and all of the issues regarding that. So that's been the biggest issue."

"The previous regime (Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr) were talking about going out and borrowing an enormous amount of money to build an enormous new facility. That's not what we're doing.

"One of their problems was that they weren't able to get financing. When this (project) happens, financing won't be the problem.

"We just need certainty with regard to these properties and the number of properties that are in question keeps getting reduced."

Good news this.

I believe they are making the correct decision to re-develop Anfield as apposed building an entirely new stadium.

This was always going to take a while with the time spent wading through the red tape and purchasing houses around the ground. Things that cant be done with a click of a finger or with a wave of a magic wand.

Its the bit about building the new stands behind the existing ones I dont get. Surly that would leave them a mile away from the pitch, or am I misunderstanding something?

Didn't know that was the case. Where can I see the plans for the redevelopment, anyone?
Either way, I would hope that it might make it easier to get to a game for us horrid out-of-towners

Think there looking at putting a railway station near Stanley park ace. The rail link is already in place from an railway that used to go through anfield to serve the docks. Not 100% definite on that though mate .

Also it makes sense to build the new stands behind the old ones. You can keep the old stands open on match day whilst still building the new ones and then there's no loss of revenue .n

If twitterati are to be believed, although in fairness, one person in particular whose called the dates almost exactly, so I have a feeling he at least has some ITK-ness about him, is claiming the Qatari investment fund that's been knocking around in the background for all kinds of rumours will be the ones stumping up a significant portion of the cash, not just for the stadium redev, but a lot of the area redev as well.

It's the same investment fund that sits behind that telecoms link a while back obederoo or whatever the funk it was called.

They're also the people behind the shard, and many other city redev/investment project around the country, seems one of their remits is to spread some bricks and mortar investment around quite a few european cities, esp in the UK given how easy we make it for foreign investment in such stuff.

The subsequent leaps being made after that is that they'll have a foot in the door for a full buyout of FSG down the line, but in the meantime they'll slather their name about the club a bit with whichever of their business they want, and chuck down some long tail investment capital in the area

As for this hitting the Echo at the moment, I think it's because we're about to start getting more and more information come out soon in a general build up to a 'TA-DA' heres the plan folks type announcement

Seems totally logical if you ask me. John W. mentioned in an interview a while back that he would be open to outside investment.

The club currently owes FSG around 84 million which is an interest free inter company loan which will have to be paid back when both parties part company. In last years accounts the club posted a loss.

John W. has also gone on record stating that he wants to turn LFC into a self sustainable business. And for me the only way of achieving this without falling further down the pecking order in the in the league or without breaking the bank is to attract outside investment to re-develop Anfield into a similar capacity stadium as our rivals which would put us on a level footing at least.

Yes I understand that but wouldnt it leave the two new stands about 50 yards from the pitch?

Saw this in the mail, looking at cost of 'cheapest day out' to watch a EPL game and we come out most expensive, must be to pay for the ground redevelopment. I wonder if the cheap ticket we offer is one of the obscure views.

The game against West Brom the IPCC wanted to put some leaflets onto each one of the chairs ( very relevant to us in regards Hillsboro )

And guess what our resident CEO said - No , that's right Mr Ayre said No

Thankfully someone sent a tweet to Mr Henry about it and he replied that he would look into it and now on sat there will be leaflets on the chairs at the West Brom game.

That highlights just the sort of clown Ayre is and why IMO he needs getting rid off.

So with the Red Sox having just won the World Series, will Fenway now back BR and invest heavily in the first XI during the next transfer window and sustain our charge up the table?
