Spurs have spent less than £30m net over the last few years and that includes the players they have purchased this summer but not the very likely sale of Bale for massive money. Strong possibility that they will have a minus net spend by the end of this transfer window going back to 08/09. In the three years prior to that their average spend was approximately £25m a year which certainly isn't Man City or Chelsea league.They even managed to make a decent profit on the Robbie Keane sell and buy to ourselves. I fully accept that they haven't won anything other than a league cup during that time but the very big question is, are they now in a position to challenge for the title and trophies together with CL qualification? I think the answer is a resounding yes but it has taken them eight year to get into that position and I think that is something they can be rightly proud of. The satisfaction for the owners and the fans must be fantastic. They didn't simply go out and buy success and I think they will be one of the first modern day clubs to achieve success without simply screaming,where's the fkg cheque book !!

If Liverpool are trying to do what Spurs have achieved rather than simply buying success and getting into massive debt then I can live with that. Liverpool FC is a business and it is a shame that some fans cannot accept that. FSG heavily supported expensive purchases soon after they arrived. They got seriously burned and if they are doing their best to make sure that doesn't happen again then I can also live with that.

I honestly can't quite figure out what these owners are all about and whats been going on at our club.   
First they signed Suarez + Carroll.  I was delighted to see us spending money at the time although a bit appalled by how much we spent on Carroll.
That summer we seemed to have great intentions of getting straight back into the top 4 only to sign a bunch of average players.
The biggest surprise at the time was selling Meireles and relegating Kuyt and Maxi to the bench.  (to be eventually sold for next to nothing).

Then with Lucas picking up a major injury and Suarez due an 8 game ban... we spent nothing in January.
Leading up to one of our biggest games that season, semi final vs Everton, we announce that we've just sacked Comolli.  Hardly the ideal time to announce such a decision.  Then Kenny gets sacked and Rodgers appointed.

At the time there was talk of a DOF or some kind of management structure.  That was apparently ditched.
Based on what you read, there has been several rumours that Assaidi and Sahin deals were already in progress.  (who was in charge?)
Then we had the ridiculous deadline day were Carroll left and we didn't replace him.

In January we signed 2 great additions to the squad and had some top 4 form towards the end of last season.
Surely we'd bring in some quality and build on that.  We haven't really done that yet.

Then we sold Downing despite him being a big part of our squad last season and playing a lot in pre season. Why did we sell him?  I admit that he was far from a top player but we haven't replaced him and he seemed to be in the managers plans.

I just don't understand any of the decisions we've been making  :S

Come in with a bang and spend a huge amount the first few windows on players and wages. Then it all becomes about breaking even and slashing the wage bill.
Oh, and of course saying all the right things when they arrive.

I agree, John Henry's wife is a an complete dolly bird and I'm available on satdee night.

Its not the same at all, for a start those clubs are not run by skype, and over conversation. We have two owner who dont like the fans or the club, they mat turn up more than once a year if that was the case. And in our situation to have 2 penny pinchin owners speaking to one one, Ian Ayre. A nother one who has no right being at of club and this who we have to trust, blind trust at best as ive been burned before. I dont know about arsenal just now but the other 3. Utd are not run by skype and you know that with some of the top imployies they have, the owners ther owners because he has SO city, they have to best owners going the came in put up a big case injestion to fet the up into 4th or above but their plan wont be to just carry on splashing their, the buying in all the best staff, their building world class fercilities  and they will be bringing through top players next season.
I just want owners who share alit of out dreams and they want it the want to win

Once again I couldn't agree more Benny.

It's clear as day the owners are now controlling who comes in and who goes out solely based from a financial perspective, they want young players brought in that they can sell on at profit later on. They don't want to be spending too much money on any player they think they can't recover or sell on at a profit, for example Willan.

In theory I actually don't have an issue with this, if you actually have the foundations of a strong squad (to begin with) this could work as long as you have a spine of world class talent. Outside of an aging Gerrard, a disruptive Suarez and fresh faced Coutinho we don't have this spine yet. Essentially what this means is that anyone can come in and try to pick off our spine as soon as (here is the clincher) any young player becomes good enough to be wanted by the richer clubs. Over time you see a revolving door of young players coming in and talent being drained out *cough* Arsenal *cough* *cough*

This problem is exacerbated when other clubs KNOW that we will pull out of ANY deal if they attempt to outbid us. Hence we will stick to signing unknowns and hope to "hit it off" with one them, ala Aspas and Alberto. Which hopefully satisfy enough of the delusion brigade on here, until eventually over time the farce of excuses of having to clean up twit and t.w.at's mess and prudent financial management finally starts to wear thin as mid table finishes become the norm and 4th place becomes more distant as an achievement.

When you actually hear Rodgers almost consigning to this cold hard reality as per the quotes above, it makes almost any fan's heart sink.
