However dispicable some of the tactics are and despite the fact that I never trusted his face, I am always looking for the good in people and I have to say that I feel for him much the same as I felt for Torres. It's v. easy to demonise these guys, as much as it is to hero worship and I think we forget that these are largely young and relatively inexperienced kids we're talking about. They don't have the same life lessons that we do and obviously your values are derived from that. I would challenge how intelligent either he or Torres really are and the deck that they are playing with in these circumstances. Clearly they both got v. bad advice and I hold agents much more accountable than them to be honest.
I always felt the same about Owen when he moved out and let's not forget that Gerrard was a good as gone to Chelsea as well. These are all people who have probably never failed at anything and are surrounded by people telling them that they are fantastic, undervalued and worth more than anyone else. It's not too disimilar from the rock star principle where they haven't so much lost touch with reality, success and fortune has always been their reality. In the way that Suarez words the urgency to be in the CL as he is 26 and next year he'll be 27, I can understand that urgency at his age as he doesn't see a year as being a relatively small time span. I think that's played on by the agents and he's missed the overarching message from the club which is that you don't know what you've got till you've lost it, a year is not that long and good things will come, be it here, or elsewhere. Stevie was swayed to stay at the last minute and clearly that was the experience from which he spoke this week in the press. He's been rewarded by the status at the club, but I wonder if he felt he made the right decision. I think evaluation of such decisions changes over time...you view things differently at 37 than 27. When you're coming to the twilight of your career, you're happy that you're still a major contender (Gerrard) playing at a high level, rather than a bench warmer (Owen).....at 26/7 my guess is they both viewed the world the same way having followed v. similar paths. Hindsight is a beautiful thing.
I just put this forward to put the person in question in perspective. You're talking about someone who came from nothing to all of this. The world he comes from is not the media hungry, success, fame and fortune world and I think he has little experience to fall back on. On top of that he's in foreign countries with little roots and support local to him. No excuse perhaps, but very different from an idiot like Joey Barton for instance. Add in that he's a massive talent and we have seen in the past that a lot of things will be overlooked because of that. I think it is for a lot of these reasons the BR has time for him and i think it is possible for it all to settle down and for us to continue the relationship. Is it damaged irrevocably? Time will tell, but if he does stay and we hit CL football by the end of the season, the world will look v. different and a lot will be 'forgotten'.
For me LFC have always known their rights, I think their position and communication has been clear, concise and only when needed. I think they have always been in control and have handled the situation as best as they can. If Suarez does move on, it will be on their terms and it could even be when we make CL footy next yr, but it will be on our terms I think. Probably the closest comparison is Rooney....Suarez will be afforded at lot at the moment because we need him. We won't find ourselves so vulnerable in 1-2 yrs time I don't think.
Would love to see some name signings coming in now to reinforce the point.
