Luis Suarez signs for Barcelona

I'm not sure Arsenal would test the water in such a way with Real loitering. Forcing our hand might see us offer him to Real or someone else. I think maybe Guardiola desperately wanted Arsenal to bid and trigger a bidding war. Maybe he knew all along that a bid of 40m+ wouldn't trigger a clause, and has been playing Arsene like a fiddle, only Real are playing their own game and never entered the bidding, nor did anyone else, thus the new tact of Suarez being given a verbal release clause, which Rodgers and the club have apparently broken.

I really think Real will be out of the picture if they sign Bale, and it's looking a question of when rather than if now.

Really can't see Ronaldo to Utd this year. All the talk is just him and his agent trying to to get more money off Madrid

How will Suarez leave if we don't sell him?

No court in the world would over-rule his contract.

He does what Liverpool tell him to do.

Arsenal can bid all they want, but we all know they are wasting their time.

If it has got to the stage where he is taking us to court then just rid of him - keeping hold of a player that is willing to go to those sort of lengths to leave is not worth it in the end - it will just create more problems.

I haven't went through the thread since the BBC article, are there any quotes to support this 'taking us to court' notion?

The BBC also said he would speak to Arsenal and little was said after.

I'd just approach it with caution, there's a lot being said that's all

Seen this posted on another site ( they got it from an Arsenal Blog )

This clause exists but Liverpool don't actually think we're in the Champions League, because we haven't negotiated the qualifier yet. Arsenal think they are, and thus the transfer has been held up while the lawyers get involved.

Therefore, Arsenal are refusing to pay any more than £40m on the basis that a) they think they've offered enough and b) if we win our qualifier, then we will definitely be in the CL, and then we'll have 4 days to complete the deal anyway.

It's quite an interesting snippet that could explain the current situation

That could make sense, and would raise the question of at what stage has a team qualified for the CL?

But aside from all of that, I'd be having my own lawyers question the meaning of loyalty in terms of a loyalty bonus, because if it turns out Suarez does leave, then not only would he have behaved extremely inapproriately in many ways, he'd also be taking money directly from the club to go along with his new contract. The black and white law is all F'd up and we know that, hence Gerrards recent remarks about loyalty on a different scale...on the pitch with your team mates and supporters.

so it's not a £40m release clause, its a release clause for £40m from a side in the CL?

Some reports say that the clause is watertight on our side, but that Suarez and his agent were assured by the club that should an offer of £40m+ come in from a CL side, that he'd be allowed to leave.

Personally I think that Suarez, Arsenal and co have messed it all up, and as a last resort, he's claiming Rodgers broke his word. There's other theories of course.

I both agree and disagree with your stance -- On one hand, any player(s) that do not put in 100% for the privilege of wearing the read shirt, while being paid handsomely and as a professional sportsman in general need to be rid of. But then again if we have pea for the size of our balls, then every managers, greedy players and their agents will want to bully or to engineer an angle to force a move for more money at every transfer window.

I said if he refuses to play under contract or if he is stupid enough to take the club to the court, then I say throw him with the reserve and make him sit and rot during this World Cup year...this is no time to take the easy way out and the club really need to grow some really big balls and be smarter in our dealings. I looked at how Daniel Levy knew Real is after Bale and he played hardball and making sure every media print that he is not selling , thus hiking the price tag to a ridiculous level. Imagine we being bullied by Arsenal and Suarez in this deal and we selling our best player to a close rival for a mere £40,000,001, we will be the laughing stock for years to come

Rodgers says that no way is Bale worth 100% more than Suarez and if Bale is worth 100m, Suarez is in the same tier. He really is playing hardball. I just hope the law is on our side else our whole stature will crumble.

Have a hard time believing this 40M buyout if it's a CL club offering malarkey.  Really would be stupid to put something like that in, when, let's face it, nearly any club able to bid that much would have to be in the CL in the first place.  Aside from a case of say Spurs with Bale money (I just realized that's pretty funny), It's not like Sunderland or Espanyol or someone is going to make a bid like that.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

All rumours and speculation with Arsenal columnists whipping up something out of nothing - but it seems a lot of LFC fans are clinging onto Gooner hearsay.  ???
